I've heard that 6-7 hours is plenty, but if your body is really worn out than 8-10 may be ideal. I have also heard that you can make-up sleep. So if you are sleeping only 3 hours a few nights, than the next night you are exhausted and sleep 16, that's totally normal because you are making up for all the sleep you lost. It's best to get a consistent amount of 7-8 hours a night, but I tend to stay up late :) Can't help it! However I make up for it on the weekend by sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday!

This happened because of work. sometimes i had more work and sometimes nothing, generally on weekends. Same here, sleeping late, late mornings. This is good comment.

I think 8 hours of sleep is very good after an 8 hours of office work. Sleeping inconsistently will prove more problematic than sleeping for under 8 hrs regularly. Sleeping for 6 hrs is also pretty good.

I think the normal time to sleep is 9 hours a day. if you sleep less than 9 hour you can not concentrate in full.

Generally people working in offices or in industry sleep very less even not 6 hrs regularly. Pressure is lot in job as well as he/she have to manage between family and job. If they will give 9 hrs for sleep, 15 hrs will remain. Out of 15 hrs. minimum 10 hrs. go for work. 2 hrs minimum in travelling and remaining 3 hrs. with family. so is it right balance.

actually 8 hours sleep is enough.shall i say u one thing .if u sleep more leads to decrease ur life span itseems.i came to know by one survey that had done few years back.and due to lack of sleep it disturbes the health a lot.because if we miss one day sleep it will b as if we miss 10 days sleep.so u imagine how it effects lack of sleep for one day.

a min of 6 hrs and a max of 8 hrs is enough for every adult. children can sleep for 9 - 10 hours.

Are you a wooden log to sleep for such long hours? As you said 8 hours is more than sufficient rest for the body. Working 10 hours in office is not a big thing. Most people work. Also make sure you get into bed at a fixed time and wake up at a fixed time (with help of alram). This will do a lot good for maintenance of your health. At young age you will not make out difference, but in the long run it pays.

I thought 8 hours was the recommended time, although its easy to get by on 6 hours per day. Not sure if catnapping a few minutes sometime during the day is useful. I guess its OK to get sleep-deprived occasionally, but if your sleep timings are bizarre and disoganised on a regular basis be prepared to be functioning suboptimally, irritable and getting into some trouble. OK... lemme go sleep now.... jus' kidding!

8 hours a day sounds like the appropriate time for full recovery in order to face a brand new day of hard work, if you ask me.

i usually sleep for around 9-10 hours but that is only because i go to school and if i went to bed any earlier i wouldnt be able to get to sleep or would be able to finish any work. but on non school days i sleep for a few hours longer which is nice. i think people should have around 8 hours sleep generally

6 to 8 hours is good. More than 8 will tire you. But ofcourse that will depend on the individual. If your work is physical and really makes you tired, maybe the more sleep you need.
