Ever Wished A Film Had A Different Ending To It?

Have you ever sat and watched a film and at the end of it thought damn it wasn't the ending I wanted to see, or the ending could have been a lot better. Or the ending was too predictable? Or do you sit there thinking you could have written a far better, entertaining ending!

All the time. Sometimes to the point where I actually feel cheated for taking time to watch the whole movie. It's like: "I can't believe I just wasted 2 hours watching this movie for that B.S. ending!" You're not alone in this grievance.

You know what? There's a lot of movies that both me and my other half have seen over the last year or so, both rentals and going to the theatre, that were disappointing in regards to the endings. Most of the ones we saw would have ending that were either not what we expected, something stupid or just didn't fit at all with what happened in the movie. The first movie we would both have to say had a disappointing ending was "Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines". We both really enjoy Arnold Schwarzenegger as an actor and especially as the Terminator. Our favorite movie in the series, just so you know, is "Terminator 2: Judgment Day". Anyways, to get back to what I was talking about...The majority of the third installment wasn't bad, but the ending seemed a little too easy. Having the Terminator make sure John and his soon to be wife are safe inside a fallout shelter before the nuclear missiles are fired...it just seemed like it was all planned and it wasn't what I expected. My other half wanted something more exciting and not so boring. It just seems in the end that the way the movie ended did not live up to what I was hoping for. The next movie was a lesser known film by the name of "The Squid And The Whale". It starred Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels as a married couple with two children who end up getting divorced. This of course happens during the course of the movie and it results in them having some very heated arguments. In the end, just when you think you're going to see a reconciliation or even just one of the parents move away to another city....the movie just finishes without giving you any answers at all. It feels like it was just all for nothing. You watched a movie this long and involved your feelings so much just to have it all fall flat. The third movie was "X-Men: The Last Stand". The majority of the movie was pretty impressive....there were new characters that injected the film with some new life but when the final battle had ended the fallout was less than spectacular. It was almost predictable. They set up some memorials for the now gone X-Men, had a short memorial for them as well and then the credits rolled. If you had read the secret of what to do...not leave the theatre until after the credits to see the extreme secret ending....you didn't miss anything you couldn't figure out. The big surprise is that Professor X didn't die...he was able to save himself and transfer his essence into another body. It was such a predictable conclusion that it didn't even need to be included. What they could have done was written the ending differently to keep that scene in some other way. Perhaps in a way that would have made it a less predictable end to the movie. So, in conclusion, those are a few of the movies that both me and my other half have seen recently that we were less than happy with. Mainly due to the fact that the endings were not what we expected. Is there any filmmaker out there that can end a film in a way where we won't feel like we wasted our money when we rent it or go out to see it? Thank you again for allowing me to share! xx

Yes! And YES! I have watched a movie and thought that I wished they would have a better ending! Take the Guardian as an example. My partner went and watched that movie in the theater and I had a suspension that it was going to end with Costner dying. Once he confirmed my suspicions, I didn't even want to see it. But there is also City of Angels! Why did they have to end it that way? Why did they have to kill her off just when she and he were finally happy! Why take something happy and end it with making you cry because it was so sad? So, yes, I sometimes think that I could write a better ending myself. Instead of killing her, make it a near hit and him rushing to her and promising to never let anything happen to her and her promise him. Why end it with him lost and diving into the ocean full of pain?

I find with many films you get to the last 10 minutes or so and the story is still no where near an ending of any kind .. then it seems like the writer just ran out of ideas and it all ends in a few minutes flurry without really tying up all the loose ends and finishing off the story properly .. now that's really annoying ... and for me it totally spoils what had been a good movie ...

That is definitely a pet hate for me with films when there are still loose ends when the closing credits come down!
