Please do not start religious discussions

I notice that many people are doing this just because the number of responses seem to be high. But meanwhile they are also spreading hatred. People just start a topic, criticizing some religion or saying something that would just trigger people to fight back, Plz dont do it with such an intention. If you intention is to seriously learn about some religion, then its fine to ask questions. Coz RELIGION is a sensitive issue, though it may not be so to YOU.

I think its great that people discuss religion. Its a very important thing to talk about, whether it be critical or just clarifying. I refuse to conform to censorship just because it might cause controversy. Inappropriate posts are deleted, if you don't like the confrontation, stay out of the discussions.

Confrontiation and heated discussion are often the nursery of reason and knowledge. If people stop discussing religion we will lose one important source of learning.

that's true. as you say it is a personal matter. but every religion has to be questioned and mylot discusions might be a good help for a wake up call. throughout history, religions' backgrounds are dreadful and those present time members might be provoked if it brought up to discussion.

Religion is something that deserves to be discussed! Why would you NOT want to discuss it. Discussing it can bring so many other views into your eyesight that may have never been brought to your attention before! I applaud the religions discussions. I don't like the nasty ones that use it as a bounce board to fight and hear themselves talk!

I agree with you. I used to discuss religion too. But people were throwing so much BS around, not only about my religion, but about all the others as well. Each God from each religion should be respected, which is what I believe and follow. When I try to defend myself, people came up with so many lies and wrong ideas. And when I explained to them my beliefs, they did not respect them. These reasons led me to believe that not discussing is better coz some people are soo narrow minded and naive.

why should we not start discussions on any subject? My answer is not to limit the subjects we discuss but rather ignore subjects which you find offensive. If you find something generally offensive (i mean, not just to you, but to the mylot community) then report it. I have yet to see a subject that i find offensive on here, i think most of them are pretty well policed. I think we need to be tiollerent of all points of view on mylot, the only things i react to are blind stupidity and ignorence, otherwise we should be able to discuss what we like. If you dont like engaging in debate over religious discussions dont do it, ignore them. I intend to debate freely on anything i see fit blessed be keep on posting

I just want to let you know that I start Religious discussions to help me learn about the different ways people believe, to help me learn what others think,to help me with study in the bible, and on movies that I have seen with religion in them. If someone responds to my discussion asking questions I will answer them I do not critize anyone for believing in what they believe not do I want any arguements or want others to think that I am being Judgemental or mean. I am no way that type of person. I love to learn and love to teach in areas for which I have the knowledge. I hope that you don't see me as the person or persons this discussion is talking about.

So, hon, did someone die and delegate you 'the god of the internet' or what? People are free to discuss whatever they want, and just because something is disagreeable to you doesn't mean its disagreeableto others, besides, what's wrong with pointing out the stupidity of some religious beliefs? And what's wrong with telling people the truth about their heroes. After all, isn't it better to believe something knowing all about the author of your religious fairy tales than just close you eyes against the things they did wrong?

Telling the truth is one thing........Offending people is another. If you do not understand the difference, I'm not to be blamed. Just read some of the discussions..... They are purely targeted to offend. Most are not doing this coz they care about their own religion, just all in the name of starting a hot new topic. BTW why should someone die to delegate me to be god of the internet. I can achieve it while everyones still live and kickcing, LOL.

unfortunately, telling people the truth often offends them look at all the uproar over the pope simply quoting some guy from 1200 years ago.

im with you judy if someone wants to discuss anything on here they should be allowed to...the only time they shouldn't is if mylot gets involved then you know its bad. but people on here should say what a person can or can not discuss..if the shoe was on the other foot im sure they wouldn't want anyone telling them what to post. if a person dont like a discussion or it offends them i say go state your opinion god knows i have....if you dont like people getting into agruements or whatever dont read the discussions its that simple

You don't have to read the discussion if you don't like the topic. People may be geniunely seeking information. This may be the only help that some people get. It's time that the Christians stand up for what is right and stop tiptoeing around people because we don't want someones feelings hurt. Someone is going to get offended no matter what the topic is.

The way I see it if a person wants to start a discussion on religion and or their beliefs they have that right to do so here. No one has to fight. If it is a sensitive issue to some people then they should do what I do on some discusssions I run across. Just keep on moving. The thing is if they post it to get a rise out of people then we shouldn't post there. but No we for some reason feel the need to stop and comment so then they think hmmmm I'll say this so they'll come back with this. When you see a discussion like this don't reward ingnorance with a comment just pass on by.

I stay far far away from these types of discussions for several reason first because i dont have alot of knowledge about all the differnt ones and second its like you said some people not all but some just start the discussion just to tick people off and get a high number of resonses so they can get a bigger payot. This is just so so wrong.

Yes. You should also notice that some just start the discussing and never even bother to come back and respond. It was their curiosity that started the particular discussion in the first place, so shouldnt they give some feedback to the people who responded to their question.

I think is absolutly brilliant to talk about religion it gives others the chance to learn about different religions, I dont see how it can bring about hatred more chance of it bringing understanding to some people. I grew up a catholic and for years thought mine was the only religion that there was, I remember feeling wierd when someone told me about the church of england. It was then I realised I was not unique, and that there were many religions, I know feel religion doesnt cause hatred amongst people but ignorant people themselves cause hatred amongst different religous beliefs tc xx keep posting ( what should we not have discussions about next gay and lesbian society) tc friends xx

I feel that people can and should talk about religion on a constant basis. For many people, religion is the basis for what they live by. Even though many people shun or reject religion, we can all learn lessons that most religions teach such as loving others, peace, and forgiveness. Religion does not teach war, radical religious preachers skew the teachings of a religion to meet their twisted view and tell people they need to believe it. I am a Christian and do not agree with any other religion around. However, I respect all other religions because I know that a true religious person is living a great life and they should be respected. Disrespect and ignorance against other religions should not be allowed on this forum, but good, real discussions and questions on a religion should be allowed to thrive. We need religion, and we also need to understand all religions in order to truly understand others. Without a true understanding of other religions, you can't make a true judgement of what you believe in and whether or not a certain group is crazy or not. Stop using stereotypes for certain religions, and our world could grow a lot closer. The non-believers should not talk at all, because I will never understand why they fight so hard to prove something wrong if they don't believe or care. Why does their belief affect mine so greatly? Some complain about Christians trying to spread their religion, but atheists are the worst and most ignorant as well. We all need to grow up and learn to respect others.

i really dont like these 'self righteous all knowing' moral police..i mean, come on..if u have a problem with religious discussions....we dont and thats a free choice we make..how can u tell us what sort of discussions to have....exactly the attitude of religious fanatics which make logical sane people trash religion all the more..

your right a lot of times people say things that they think really sounds stupid and think it souds good, even tho they have no idea what they are talking about, and then a person practicing that religion fires back and they try to dispute them and still don't know what the heck they are talking about, sometimes it is just funny to read and other times it is really offensive!!! thanks for mentioning this!!!!

why , dont you like to discuss about religion?

Its not that i dont like to discuss about religion, I DO. Coz i did learn many things and many peoples view points. But lately the posts are not "DISCUSSIONS". They just try to point out how one religion is all wrong and they are not considerate of the words that they use to put across their view. Its very disturbing, some of these so called religious discussion posts. I try not to respond, but at times i just cannot sit around listening to all the BS thats being splashed around. By all means, You have the right to discuss. Its just a polite request, tho many here make it seem like i told them "Dont discuss or else...." , Ignorance and misunderstanding.... again.

Silence can be deadly. Are you perhaps an atheist or an agnostic or a very secular person and is it that you do not like people posting that they are a Christian and believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation or do you not like Moslems posting that there is no God but Allah or do you despise Jews extolling the belief in God? All these views can be thought of by those who believe every road leads to God or there is no proof of God as hatred and they write letters to their government so that the government removes any display of religion and that view leads to a deadly silence where people are afraid to open their mouth and those that do are in deadly peril of their lives. Therefore as long as people admit that their lives are better and they have hope because they are a Christians, Moslems, Jews, Buddhists, etc.

Good post! I'm Atheist and I while I'm open-minded and don't talk down about religion in general I think many Christians can't handle those of us who are Atheist or Agnostic and easily take offense to what we have to say. Just because we have an opinion that differs doesn't mean we push it down their throats, just like not all Christians are Bible-thumpers. People just need to relax and try to enjoy the diversity of people on mylot.

Let us seek unity and ecumenism in discussing religion. Tell me what you know and I will tell you what I know. Do not judge me and I will not judge you. I join religious practices of different sect. I do not judge them. I hope they will find the TRUE GOD and worship Him.

I completely agree with you. As soon as there is a religious discussion, friends become foes, the taste of hatred spreads all over and then what comes out in form of words is very painful, hurting and disasterous for society. Please don't spoil mylot site, by adding religious hatred here. Lets live in peace at least on internet.
