Being Part of a Food Taste Test Group

Hi - was wondering if any of you have ever been part of a test panel for a new food product before they released it on the market. I did a taste test for some bite size wheat snacks with a vanilla and strawberry flavour. They were so gross - too sweet and with weird bright colours. I think maybe other people doing the taste test thought so too because I have never seen these on the market. Have you had any similar experiences?

I haven't been part of any food testing panel although my experience stems from wandering around the supermarket trying the Free Taste booths. Hehehe... There was a girl with a tray of bite size hotdogs on sticks. I was a bit hungry so i took five sticks! LOL! To my dismay, the hotdog tasted like food coloring! Grrrr.... Even my brother who tasted three pcs said so. I don't see it in the market anymore...

Hi hartnsoul, I try not to go to the supermarket when I'm hungry for that very reason. I'll eat anything when I'm hungry and usually end up eating something like the above (which only resembles food)! Thanks for posting your experience.

I have participated in a test panel, well sort of.. My DOG did. I received a phone call from a company representing a new dog food manufacturer and wanted to know if I would be interested in receiving a sample. They said they would call back at the end of the month and I was to let them know how my dog liked the food. I was expecting a SAMPLE and received FIFTY pounds of dog food. I felt kind of guilty as my dog will eat anything including pickles! : )

That is funny! 50 pounds eh? At least you didn't have to buy dog food for a while. Thanks for responding!

I've done lots of food test panels. I've tried coffees, cereals, burgers, drinks, pizza, even toothpaste. I've tried more bad products than good. You wonder how some even got as far as test marketing to the public.

That's interesting brimia. You sure have tasted alot! I would actually love to do more food testing -it's practical for companies to do this before they release food products on the market to either get their "formula" right or just give up on the really bad food ideas.

I was part of one for Pizza, the pizza was disgusting, it smelled pre-digested. No idea if it made it to market since I don't eat frozen pizza.

This amazes me - I don't eat frozen pizza either, but how can they get pizza SO wrong???

Yeah I did and it was yummy. It was for some ice cream and it actually tasted really good LOL Unlike your experience, mine was really interesting and fun. Now that we're talking about it I remember I also did that back home many, many years ago. It was for a sweet called bombokas. They already had it in the marked and where thinking about adding a new flavor. That one was interesting too, but the flavors didn't work out, the original was best.

Hey I have been looking for a company like this! I was a member of one years ago, and have tried finding them again, but have no luck. I know you are Australia-do they offer "positions" in the Unites States? Did you sign up with them online?
