Is anyone's favorite part of church the music?

I went to church for many years as a child. When I look back now the only thing I really liked about church was the singing. We would sing some contemporary Christian music, some from the hymns and sometimes people would get up and sing a solo. Our church had a drummer, piano player, guitar, bass and a music director. I remeber sometimes our guitar player would get carried away and think he was in some smokey nightclub playing the blues. Anyway, that was and is my favorite part of church. I know I should feel more but I don't. Does anyone else just go for the music and the chance to belt out a song?

Church music is really wonderful. And now there are more and more different style songs which preach gospels and praise the God entering into church. So almost every generation can find their favorite music. I really can't tell which is my favorite song but so many. But one of them makes me deep impression is called "Amazing Grace". It's said it's a very famous and popular song in Western countries. Is that true?

I'm glad to hear this because I am a church music minister! I've been directing for years. Children's choirs, women's choirs. . . I'm currently working with a group that is something like you comment on: guitars, drummers, with me at piano. It takes a lot to make church a good experience. Someone else commented on fellowship, which is very important. But I think the thing that will people in the door is either the music or the preaching or both. Community and fellowship will follow. If the music is poor or the preaching is bad, word will get out and people will avoid that chuch like the plague. But people will tell friends and family if a church has a good preacher or a good music ministry program.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying singing the hymns and worship songs at church in fact. Going to church just to enjoy singing is wrong. God looks at our hearts. We should be singing with our hearts right with Him. Even if we go to church with heavy hearts, He knows. We are required by Him to praise Him in all circumstances. It's because our feelings are not the focus - God is. And when we do, He lifts us up. God loves to hear us sing to Him, loves our worship of Him and loves to receive our devotion. It's not about us. It's about Him. Let us all 'belt out our songs' to Him and only Him. Anything else is counted as nothing.

yup, it's one of my favourite parts. And I totally get what you mean by the band members thinking they are part of some gig! Esp the drummer in my case. But they are all doing it for the glory of God, which is what makes it all the more cool. Hoping that one day you'll feel more whilst belting out that tune! Some of the best hymns were actually pub songs. That brings a chuckle to my lips and a smile to my face. cos God uses all things for His glory!

Where I went to church a few times as a kid, they had a choir and orchestra, but played old boring hymns. In high school I went to a church where they had electric guitars, electric keyboards, drums, some singers (not very good ones though), and it was much more entertaining. Half of the service was singing. They put the words up on an overhead too rather than making your read them out of a hymnal. I never really liked the rest of the service and even though I wasn't claiming to be an atheist back then, I pretty much always was one. But even now I still like a couple religious songs just because they're good, religious or not.

I'd say that the music and singing is part of what I really enjoy about church, but I also enjoy the fellowship of meeting with special friends and just getting together with them before and after church. We have a wonderful group of people at our church and I have made some very special and loving friends there. Most of the time I also enjoy the sermons, but I wouldn't say that is the main reason that I go.
