Actully India do not respond more nicely than cricket in any other sport, did India? You know ever nation need a sport to cheer together, and I think only its cricket that provide such an opportunity! Thats why we Indians rejoice for cricket solmnly! I hope you got it!!!!!!!

Ya Indians are more addicted to cricket.Main reason is we are more successful in cricket than any other sport. That's why most Indians are crazy for it.Naturally we have interest in those things which we can do better.

Here are my points: 1. Success in the international area. 2. Great Batsman and Bowlers. 3. The very nature of the game, little bit slow, which matches the Indian psychology. 4. Effect of British rule in India.

cricket - In India, cricket is not just a sport, its a religion
In India, cricket is not just a sport, its a religion. You can see kids playing in the streets with bat and ball. I think its the rules of cricket and the way its played has made the people to get addicted to the game, and also the performances of the other sportsmans like football etc have made the cricket game very popular.

Since independence, cricket was marketed in the right sense than the other sports. The only other notable game was hockey. Unfortunately, hockey cannot be played anywhere readily like cricket. Similarly hockey and football are contact sports and in our country, we generally do not favour them for injury risks as our physique is fragile compared to international standards. None of the other sports is sufficient enough to earn 3 decent meals for anybody who follows them, except probably tennis, where only after sania mirza, there is some interest, but tennis coaching and playing can be done by only rich people even now. Only cricket is playable by people even when they are poor, overweight, unfit and without any expert training or rules needed to play the game in any street corner or apartment top, even inside the house sometimes. That's why.

Since India stand no where in any other outdoor games be it, football, tennis, hockey and in only cricket they manage to win sometimes quite rarely though, but indian public get something to cheer about. Cricket is played only at dozen countries and even in those country its not the most popular game except the indian subcontinet. so i think due to lack of options cricket rules the indian sports scene.

I feel that since India has tasted some success in cricket and it is sort of entertainment & that it unites the whole of the country like nothing does. Becuae it's action packed, real thing. An since with icons like sachin, dhoni, kapil, ganguly, sehwag, dravid... are the icons people in country want to emulate. And besides cricket can be played with bat and ball anywhere in the country even in streets and it doesn't cost much. Besides it is gentleman's game as it si not contac sport in which we excel.
