If you go to a local store or marketplac, how much food would you be able to buy for your family? I mean real food, not fast food from the international food chanins. For how many persons would this amount of food be enough? Or how many days would one person eat for a dollar?

Well I am an Indian and one dollar equals Rs. 45/46 in Indian currency. Here in India, one can buy a good meal for a time from this amount. You must be joking, only a single person would be able to fill his stomach from one dollar and for a single time. Good Luck.

If we go to a cheap restaurant we have to pay abot 10 dollars for a decent meal - did you mean that you can eat a good meal for a dollar in a restaurant or at home?

well we use dollars here so I'd say not even a bag of chips. if your currency against dollar is quite high then having a dollar can probably feed you three times a day. Over here, it's impossible to do that, even in a dollar store where you can buy some things a lot cheaper than supermarket and grocery stores.

in my homeland too, a dollar now can feed a child's lunch and breakfast, but not adult anymore. Things have changed a lot.

Well if I go to a dollar store I can buy any food item for a dollar. I guess soup, some pasta packages. Although I do not ;like the food items that they sell there you can buy food for a dollar but it is something that you have to cook. As far as restaurant food I do not think that there is anything for a dollar any more.

You might be able to buy some kind of food, or Vegetable. You can not eat no days for a dollar unless your on a diet and pinching off food.

For 1 dollar here, you can barely feed a cat! Here, with 1 dollar, you can buy a chocolate bar, and then again, some places sell them 1.00$ + taxes, so you won't have enough.

One dollar here in Iloilo Philippines could only buy one kilo rice, and half kilo fish, since we have a lot of vegetables in our backyards. It's not that big amount but to people from slum area , that can last already for a whole day food.

I might be able to buy one hot dog on a good day when they are barbecuing them out side the store. There is no way I could feed any of my family for $1. It just isn't enough. I do my groceries every two weeks and although we don't buy a lot of extras I still spend $200 every time, and sometimes a little more. We certainly wouldn't get far on just one dollar although I wish we could :) Great topic.
