Imagine A World Without Electricity - Would You Be Able To Survive?

Hello everyone. This morning I woke up and there was no hot water in the house. The weather here in New Jersey is 17% F. We called the Gas company and they came out to fix the problem. They were here in less than a hour. While the technician was fixing the problem, he had to cut the gas off. It was only off for about one hour. The temperature in the house started to drop immediately. Fortunately we were able to cut our heater on before it got too cold. That made me start thinking. We take a lot of creature comforts for granted. My question to you is this: Imagine a world without electricity. Would be able to survive? And what would you hate most about it? Lloyd

I'd have no problem with it. We have a nice fireplace in a modest house. I have a nice garden and plenty of fresh meat running about in the woods. I'm used to cooking over an open flame. My cellar would make a decent cooler to replace the frige since the food would be fresh. Gimmie a couple horses and I'm good to go. I actually lived without electricity for a year while working as a ranch hand in Montana, I loved it.

Wow. You seem like the perfect person to know if we ever had to revert back to life without electricity. Sound like you could write a survivor's guide for those of us who wouldn't know what to do. Thanks. Lloyd

Hello Itgalary. I know a lot of people live without electricity. But for those of us who have gotten used to the things electricity provide, it would be hard to stomach. No more air conditioner, computor, television, etc. Just think about it. Lloyd

Of course we would be able to survive, my little avatar friend survived very well all those years ago. Fire was a very useful medium that was used for cooking, heating and light. It would be very difficult for anyone to lose the benefits of electricity today, but that is because present technology has developed in the world of electricity. If electricity had never been introduced then I would imagine that technology would have taken a different direction, but there is no way of knowing the level of facilities that would exist.

Hello Asylum. Your little avatar friend survived all those years ago, but I don't he survived very well. Their lifespan was way shorter than ours. And I'm sure he would have liked some of those store bought shoes. lol Thanks. Lloyd

Hello Max. I know I would miss my computer the most. I can easily get around using the microwave and the computer can provide entertainment similiar to television. Let's hope that we will never have to find out the answer to this question. Lloyd
