Hanna-Barbera Cartoons - Do You Remember Them?

United States
February 5, 2007 7:18pm CST
Hanna-Barbera was an American animated cartoon production company that produced animated television programming and motion pictures for forty-five years between 1957 and 2001. They produced many successful cartoon series, including The Flintstones, The Jetsons, The Huckleberry Hound Show, The Yogi Bear Show, Jonny Quest, Wacky Races, Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, and The Smurfs. Sometimes I go to the Cartoon Network hoping to watch one of them, but they are no longer on in this area. Do you remember them and do your miss them? And what do you think about the cartoons that on television today? Lloyd

I grew up watching the shows and I loved them. I watched most of the ones you mentioned and some others as well. I couldn't imagine my childhood without them. I loved scoobydoo and so many others. I remember when Cartoon network started and they used to show all of them. You're right they don't know and I miss that. I miss not being able to see them anymore. At least some of the Scooby Doo movies, the animated ones, have been very good.

Heheh well I started ten years later but they are still my whole childhood. Yes their songs are too for that matter :) They really were very good at times. I loved sharing them with my neice when they were on for her to watch.

The Hanna-Barbera cartoons had some classic soundtracks. The Flintstones sound track was a classic. So was Yogi Bear and Top Cat. Lloyd

Grrrrl, they started in 1957 and I 'started' in 1958 - those 'toons (and their music too) are part of the 'furniture of my mind'.

Hi! I grew up on these cartoons, too. The Flintstones was my favorite! We watched the Jetsons a lot, too. I think these cartoons were far better than anything that is being put out today. I do like the cartoons I allow my daughter to watch, even Spongebob will get a laugh out of me every so often, but the new cartoons just don't have the "magic" that the old ones had. :-)

Thanks! I don't know where my parents got them, but they just gave my daughter three "George of the Jungle" tapes with episodes of the original cartoons. I know my daughter will love them as much as we all did when we were kids! :-)

Hi Clownfish. You described it perfectly when you mentioned the "magic" that the old ones had. They were special. And the sound effects were basic but effective. I know the kids of today would get a kick out of seeing them. Lloyd

I grew up watching Hanna-Barbera cartoons, or to be more accurate I grew up and still watch Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Scooby Doo and Wacky Races were always my favourite cartoons. I do not expect that I will miss them, because I believe that the cartoons will continue. Wacky Races does not seem to have been around for a long while, but Scooby Doo is still going strong. As for todays cartoons, I am a great fan of Futurama, although there are many that I just do not understand.

Hello Asylum. I really wish we still had them here. It would be a nice break from all the bad news and politics we see on TV all day long. I'm in the same boat with you as to not understanding many of the cartoons that's on today. I forgot about Wacky Races. That was one of my favorites. Lloyd

Wow. I was doing some channel surfing on my Dish Network Satellite system and came across a channel called Boomerang. It has all the old time cartoons and I've been watching all my favorites all day long. I've been watching Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Hong Kong Phooey, The Flintstones, Top Cat , Wacky Races, Popeye and Yogi Bear all day long while posting here at MyLot. Boy has this brought back some old memories. Does anyone here subscribe to Boomerang TV? I came across by accident. It's channel 291 on Dish Network. Lloyd

Yes I sure do. I Loved and used to imitate Yogi all the time. Those cartoons with Yogi and the Flintstones and Huckleberry Hound were all part of a normal day at my house. We all sat and had a snack and watched them and all laughed out loud. I can still hear myself giggling so hard! Yes I sure miss them and wish that my Grandson's could have had the pleasure of seeing those "toons" as we called them.

Doesn't it bring back some great memories. It's ashame that the kids today aren't aware of these low tech, but great "toons". Yogi was the best. You better not leave a picnic basket around him or Boobo. lol Lloyd

I know I read that name somewhere :) Yes I remember a bit about Flintstones, Jonny Quest, SCooby Doo and Smurfs. The only cartoons I can still watch are Bugs Bunnies and Silvester and Tweety. I don't like Southpark it's just violent but don't mind King of the Hill it's OK.

Cartoon like the Flintstones, Jonny Quest, SCooby Doo and Smurfs were for kids. Southpark, The Simpsons, Kind of the Hill and Family Guy seem to be adult orientated. I have to change the channel sometimes when watching them. Lloyd

i remember these cartoons! i used to watch a lot of them as a kid. Now, i don't even know if they still exist around here. If not, that is entirely sad news, because they were great shows. Very wholesome. Innocent hmor for little kids.

Oh how I Love Hanna Barbera Cartoons. These are some of the Best Cartoons you will ever find, and I wish they would continue to show more of them still. I miss watching the Flinstones, and Jetsons. I can still find Scooby Doo from time to time, but the rest of them I think are History now :(

I was really into Jonny Quest, I watched every episode. It was pretty exciting and had some good adventures, as I remember (though I was quite young; mightbe interesting to watch it today to see what I think of it). I also liked Top Cat and Yogi Bear. Didn't one the guys just die a month or so ago? Can't remember if it was H. or B.

Watching Johny Quest was like watching a great adventure every weekend. I was fixed to it. Top Cat is the coolest Cat of all of them, but Mr. Dibble kept him in check. Yogi Bear and Booboo. Wasn't your average Bear. lol. Yogi loved some picnic baskets. lol Thanks for the memories. Lloyd

Cartoon network turned them over to Boomerang - I paid Extra to get that channel so I wouldn't loose my HB cartoons!

I still love those cartoon shows. Since you remind me of this, I will try to look for some copies in dvd or vcd format next time I shop. All those shows are favorites of mine and I always indulged in them whenever they show them on tv. As far as I can remember, all of my kids love all of them, too. I should say thank you so much for this post.

They were real innocent fun cartoons. I loved the Flintstones and Top Cat. Saturday mornings, no school watching cartoons then in the afternoons watching the old Black & White, Abbott & Costello. Kids now don't know real TV.

Hello Tenerifelynn. I agree that they were 100 times better. They had their little degree of violence, but it didn't make us go out and do any of it. I'd love to bring them all back and see the kids laughing at them the way we used to. Thanks for your input. Lloyd
