How do you rate your fellow mylotters/mylotians?

I have a slight dilemma, I have a few responses throught my discussions that I haven't rated for several reasons and am looking for advise to clean it up. I have a few 1 liners, that while pertain to discussion added nothing. They misread the question so response was for the discussion they thought they read. Then I have the ones that because of the English barrier I have no idea if the response pertained to the discussion or not. So can you help me out? 1) How do rate 1 liners? Looking for complete honesty here. 2) How do you rate those that misread the question? 3) How do you rate those that because of the English barrier you have no idea if the response went with the discussion? So how do you handle the above listed responders? With a + or -? Please explain your reason? Thank you!

I generally only rate really good or really bad responses. If a one-liner fully answers a topic, why would I necessarily give it a bad response? Sometimes you don't need a super wordy response. As far as giving negative ratings, I'm pretty hesitant to do that. Mainly I hate to hurt people's feelings! I usually only give minuses if someone writes something completely off the wall or does something dumb like "???". Come on, that's not helping anyone! As far as the language thing, I'm one of those dumb Americans who only speaks English (minus a few key words in French), so I could never give someone a negative rating for poor grammar. I'd be a complete hypocrite! But I do think that you asked a good question, so I'm giving you a good rating! :-)

One line answers don't get any rating for me. If people give only a few words and don't answer the question I rate them negatively. If they don't answer in proper english as it isn't their first language I rate them postively just for giving it a try.

I rate them down if they sound clueless, cliche' or illiterate.

1. I straightway give negative for 1 or 2 word responders 2. I give positive for 1 liner if the answer is interesting 3. I definitely give [+] for those who give meaningful response. 4. I give BR for the best response.

If it is total gibberish, one word or the famous yes, I don't know, then it gets a negative. I won't give a negative for a one line response. With that reasoning, I could give all your Thank you lines, a negative. And I don't think that would be very nice of me because it pertains to your discussion. Just because mylot wants quality responses doesn't mean I can whip up a 3 paragraph response to every discussion. If someone misreads the question but is still on track with the discussion then I don't give them a negative. We ALL intrepret things differently. I may not rate them but I won't give them a negative. Sometimes people just have more to add to their response that may take a bit off topic. The key is if anyone wants to respond to the bit of off topic is to keep it under that remark with comments--don't drag it to through the rest of someone's discussion. I don't rate answers negative from someone who really tried to write it in English. That would be unfair of me. I mean they are trying. Some, I can't help but give a negative because it has nothing at all to do with the discussion.

I rate myLotters based on their content. If I am reading a discussion and notice they are spamming I will report them and leave the discussion. If someone responds just to make a dumb comment that doesn't apply to the discussion they are given a negative. All other that don't break any rules gets a positive rating. After my discussions stop getting responsed I go back and choose best response.

This is a diffcult question. I think that it would have be on a case by case basis. If I get a one line reply that is relevant then I'll rate it positive. If they have misread the question or if the reply was irrelevant anyway, then a negative rating. In the case of your last option - poor engish, (and I include those who use texting language here) If I can decipher the meaning and it's relevant, then a + rating, but if it's not clear what they are trying to say, then probably the best option is to just ignore it. Having said all that, I do tend to not rate one liners at all unless they are very relevant.

I think you could rate the ones that can make you laugh, that keep you interessed reading, despite if its a good or a bad english, and of course you can rate by empathy for the ones you like more.

1.One liners get a + if it is meaningful and pertinent, otherwise it's a - and also a comment. 2.When somebody mis reads a question I clarify in the comment, and most often they have responded with an apology and a relevant response, so a +. 3.When I get incomprehensible responses, I leave a comment asking them to explain themselves. If there is no response form them even after a few days, they get a -..I know,I know..very harsh, but you can't write some nonsense on my discussion and leave! I definitely don't tolerate it. I read and rate very response, most of them with a +. With some, if I don't know what to do, I don't rate it. Someday when I get back, depending on my mood, that person gets a +..hehe!

I have given this some thought before. I hardly ever mark anyone with a minus unless it is obvious that they didn't read my topic _at all_. I would rather leave someone unrated than give them a minus unless I am sure that they were just posting flippantly with no care about the subject. After all, as you said, with the language barrier, sometimes you can't even tell if the person misunderstood you on accident. So I would rather give a plus or else just move on and not rate that person, if I'm not sure of what they were intending.

Thank you for your honesty. I have a few unrated responses that I was looking to clean up. I don't like to mark with the negative, especially when responding on my discussions, lol but I also didn't feel right just marking a plus and so the sit unrated :) figured I would take the advise of those that had been here awhile. Good luck here!

I really go for the creativity of response in relevance to the context of discussion being posted...be it one liner or paragraph...the replies which attract me lot are the ones which are really creative and original in response...just be sure that responses are original and more pertaining to the topic under discussion...

It's very very seldom I give anyone a negative. The only time I would do this is if they really offended me or have been vulgar and nasty to someone else who responded to the discussion. Other than that, I rate everyone positively. Sometimes everything has been said already in a discussion so it's hard to reply with more than one line. Those who misread the statement but still answered the discussion I would have a hard time giving a negative to as I feel they thought they had the question right and did their best to offer some advice or comment. The ones with the English barrier I find the hardest, but I try to understand as best as I can and kudos to them for making the attempt. I just can't see me participating in a forum where it was in a different language, lol, I'd fail miserably.

I don't know if there is a right way to do this but I have been rating by content of responses. If a response is a simple Yes or I agree, then I normally rate it negatively as it really adds nothing to the discussion. If it is statement that has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion, it gets a negative mark. Positive remarks are thought-out, and normally consist of more than one sentence. Although, I have rated several one line responses positively because one sentence and enoough was said on the topic at hand. Misunderstanding the question seems to happen frequently on mylot, but if they are still anywhere near the subject at hand, I will rate them positively for their response. As for language barriers I look for keywords and try to put it together in a coherent way if it hasn't been done quite right. If I am still confused I will ask for a clarification from the responder. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't as the user's english is just too broken for me. But I dont rate them negatively.

Hi. I think fellow myLotians who have come of some age here can perfectly help you out on this. I am still in the learning process as you seem to be. For the ratings I always give a + to the responses I think conclusive whether they are one liner or else. Sometimes it happens that you don't have enough words and you want to respond, you can only give one single line(after much thoughts). A - for those who don't go through the complete discussion and are always off track. they doesn't conclude anything in a discussion. I don't rate someone - because of English barrier. Try to give it more thought what they want to say. It sometimes becomes too hard. Good Luck ahead.

The way I would do it is as this: 1...A one liner if on target still gets a + 2...A misread question I don't rate 3...An English barrier, I don't rate unless I can figure out what they said. I only give a - if it is a one word response I only give a ! if it was vulgar or a pasting I give "Best response" to someone that answered my question, put thought into it, and it was better than the rest. God bless you, M&M I hope this helped you.

Well if i recieve one liners that are meaningless and proof that they did not even read my discussion than i give them a minus and i do. If i am unsure about a response than i may leave it or as long as it was a good try i plus it. I actually give pretty much everyone a plus rating accept for those that do not have anything to do with my discussion at all. Those that leave an I Dont Know or not sure always get a - rating from me though they deserve it everyone else is at least trying and remember the languauge barrier is equally hard for them!!

If it is a one liner and stupid I don't rate them or I give them - Not often English barrier can be hard, if I can understand them and it is a good response, they will get a + other wise nothing Misread questions I don't rate, I make a comment on. Also those who are just rude, well we all know what we do with those, right?

If it is a one liner that answers the question properly - do you like milk? I guess that would be a +, If it is a one liner to a complex question, but answer the question with something valid, I would not rate it. I 'I don't know' or an 'Oh wow' is a minus Misread the questions - I leave blank, same thing for English barrier. If peeople want to get paid for responding in English, then they should learn some English. I would not join a site, where I was not competent in the language and expect to get paid for my responses that were useless I have seen responses where the dialogue owner asked what they meant and they responded with a separate respons with the exact same non-meaningful response. SO they expected to get paid twice for gibberish. Wrong, they should get a negative.

1. I don't rate 1 liners. 2. If they seem to have misread the question or misunderstood it but gave an honest attempt to respond I'll give a positive rating. If it seems like they just blabbered on to get a response in, I won't rate. 3. If I REALLY can't understand the response I won't rate. I only rate negative if the person is clearly copy and pasting something that makes no sense just to get responses, stole someone else's response, or has left an inappropriate/unallowed comment.

Thank you for responding. If the person is copy and pasting and breaking the mylot rules they shouldn't be marked a negative they should be reported to mylot as abuse. Good luck to you here at mylot!
