Has anyone set any reading goals for the year? I hope to read 50 young adult novels (I write YA, so it helps to read a lot of it), and 25 adult works this year. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I don't have very much time to fit reading into my schedule. Here is what I have read so far this year... Young Adult Works 1. Carolina Autumn - by Carol Lynch Williams 2. When I Was Older - by Garret Freymann-Weyr 3. The Giver - Lois Lowry 4. A Summer to Die - Lois Lowry 5. The Bridge to Terabithia - Katherine Paterson 6. Room to Grow: An Appetite for Life - Tracy Gold 7. The Trumpet of the Swan - EB White Adult Works: 1. The Man Who Sleeps in My Office - Jason Sommer 2. The Illustrated Man - Ray BRadbury 3. Black Boy - Richard Wright ---- So far I am on track with reading 4 YA a month and 2 adult a month. I think I will exceed my goal this year. Do you have any goals? What books have you read recently?

Reading is a way of life for me. It's necessary but also spontaneous and enjoyable. I usually keep three or four unread books handy but I would never set up a structured plan.

It used to be that way for me too. But...three kids later...and I can barely go to the bathroom by myself...I am finding it harder to find time to just enjoy it without interruption. So...this is helping. By having a goal I am getting past them crawling all over me and interrupting me a hundred times a page. :-)

I have set a goal of 50 books for this year. This is a low number to some - but I am also working and going to school full time so I don't have as much time as I like to read. I am in a group on livejournal and also on yahoo groups to track and discuss the books I've read. The only stipulation that I have set on my 50 books is that I would like to read more of the classics. I'm currently reading Lolita. I also have in my stack -"For Whom the Bell Tolls" "The Handmaids Tail" "On the Road" by Keorac and also some Oscar Wilde. So far I have read: January 1. "Life, The Universe, and Everything" by Douglas Adams 182 pages 2. "Brother Odd" by Dean Koontz 364 pages 3. "So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish" by Douglas Adams 204 pages 4. "Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman 306 pages 5. "Artemis Fowl" by Eoin Colfer 280 pages 6. "Fluke, Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings" by Christopher Moore, 317 pages 7. "The Private Life of the Cat Who..." By Lilian Jackson Braun 123 pages 8. "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz 446 pages
