Tretinoin is a major breakthrough in acne therapy and acts by breaking up the microcomeda (waxy plug forming within the surface of the hair follicle). See article in a derma site I am helping to manage - http://www.derma-ph.com/?p=5

I guess the best thing that you could do to control acne is to first have a healthy lifestyle like eating right and getting plenty of rest.. for persistent acne problems, you could consult a reputable dermatologist.. avoid doing self medication since this makes the problem worse..

these are some of the home remedies.try them . i m sure you'll get relief. 1. put toothpaste on your pimples before you go to bed . this helps reduce the swelling overnight but remember that the toothpaste is not a gel. 2. wash your face twice a day with warm salty water. it will leave your face oil free without aggravating acne. 3. apply a fresh paste of fenugreek leaves over the face every night for 10-15 min. and then wash it with warm water. 4. take the juice of one full lemon and mix it up with equal quantity of rose water. apply this mixture on the face and let it stay fgor about half an hour.now wash your face with fresh water about 15 days application helps cure acne, black heads, pimples, blemishes and mild scars too. 5. massage the face with the skin of lemon before washing it with lukewarm water. 6. apply fresh mint juice over the face every night for the treatment of acne. it can also be used in the treatment of any insect bite eczema, scabies too. 7. a couple of garlic cloves , crushed and dabbed on the face 1-2 times a day . 8. you can make your own face wash:- mix together one or two mls each of the following . witch hazel, tea tree and sweet fennel essential oil , adding essential oil of geranium for women and essential oil of rosewood for men. mix this with three hundred mls of water (300mls.)shake before use. as the oil will store on the top of the water during the storage. dab effected area with cotton wool 2-3 times a day. the oils will clean and unclog the giving anti-biotic like protection to the skin. 9. apply fresh lemon juice on the affected area overnight and was it off with warm water the next morning. 10. grind orange peel with some water to a paste and apply it on the affected parts. this is also a sure shot home remedy of acne.

If your acne is persistent or unmanageable, I would definitely go to a dermatologist. I use a combination of beta-hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, tea-tree oil, glycolic acid, and a prescription cream called Tazorac to keep breakouts under control.

Comedones - Comedones will have to be removed by a dermatologist regularly as they block the pores thereby decreasing the effectivity of topical medicines applied on the skin.
I had a bad case of acne a few years back. From what I have been through I can say that it will really take patience as you have to painstakingly apply your medicines night and day. You have to follow a regimen. 1. I go to my dermatologist to have my face cleaned. This includes a facial with extraction of comedones. Comedones are the skin-coloured, small bumps(papules) frequently found on the skin of the people suffering acne. If you really want to eliminate your acne going to a dermatologist regularly is best 2. Follow the medications and the regime the dermatologist give you. If it is not working consult your dermatologist about it. Now that I no longer have acne I maintain my skin by still going to a dermatologist once a month and using Witch Hazel Toner.

putting toothpaste on your acne really works. but don't know about sensitive skin. putting paste of neem leaves and eating neem pills work to get your skin clear. if you have any more queries for skin care you can ask me as i am expert in them

I would schedule a consultation with a dermatologist before you start self-treating your acne. They know best how to treat each individual type of acne and they can help you figure out what may work the best for your skin. Good luck with it.
