One Thousand Plus - I Had No Choice

Please Friends, I am asking for your honest feedback on this one. This morning when I came to my computer I had over 1000 emails. I knew how backed up I was but I didn't realize that in my haste to answer discussions from friends, I had not taken the time to Really look through my e-mails. Because of this, I missed a very important message from my Tupperware manager that really affected my business; and it is too late now to do anything about it. This is totally my fault, I should have been checking everything in my mail box. As a result, I have put all of my friends on the "off" setting, at least temporarily. I have NOT deleted anyone, I would never do that. Please let me know if this decision of mine offends you. If it does, I will change it back again. As someone who is still fairly new to MyLot, I know that I can't please everyone all of the time; but I still aim to do that. LOL (If you watched Men In Trees last night, you will understand that I am exactly like Anne Heche's character!) I am most thankful that MyLot has provided a "Discussions my friends started" link; and I promise that I will be using that daily. Peace and Love to all ~Donna

I can't speak for your friends, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind. I have turned off my email alert too because I was getting too many emails in my account as well. Actually, your friends can't tell if you have the email alert on or off. If you did still want to receive email alerts from mylot you might want to consider opening a free yahoo account just for mylot. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your business email. Did you try checking your trash bin?

Your decision does not offend me at all as I certainly understand and hope that you are able to discuss things with your manager and get everything straightened out. Your business should be more important right now so you should concentrate on that. I will look forward to your replies when you have time and things are back to normal with your job. I do not think anybody should be offended by your decision and hopefully they are understanding as well.

Ok here is my two cents. Now I'm new to all of this 'friends' bit. I have been on mylot since mid December but I was randomly answering posts under discussions. I rejected any friends because I thought if I accepted them then they would all come through my email and I didn't want that clogged up. So I only had my two girlfriends on my friends list. Well they both told me differently now. They have tons of friends and they like it that way because they get more quality discussions. So I just started in the last few days requesting friends. Now I have kept notify me off because like I said I don't want my email full. What I am doing is as soon as I sign on mylot I go into 'discussions my friends started' and I answer and rate them all doing it that way. It seems to be working so far.

I believe most of us agree with you. WhenI only had 2-3 friends I was okay, but as I got more friends, it got ridiculous. I only have one friend turned on and that is a off-line friend that lives near me. She is not active and want to know when she becomes active.

Donna you must prioritize and your business and income are more important aspects of your life than getting every notification of every topic that your "friends" post. I simply got an extra mailbox at mail2world that I have all of my myLot correspondence sent to. But I would never be offended by you not answering my topics. When people don't show up online or on my discussions for a few days I usually figure tehy have a lot going on in their real-time lives or maybe my recent discussions are not their cup of tea. I would recommend going ahead and seperating your emails by having a seperate box for your work stuff and your play stuff.

I think the solution could be that you direct your mails to some folder that you create or atleast when ever you visit search the mails for that keyword and sort them evry time you check your mails. That way you separate all your important messages from not so important ones.

Hi Donna! I had to turn off my notification email too! I had thousands too, and was missing school emails! So I only use "Discussions my friends started" also, that's how I find myself here now! Sorry I've been off mylot, school started and now its mid-quarter already!

I don't use the notify thing, so that's not a problem for me. I just hit the "Discussion my friends have started" tab and go from there. But I might have a suggestion for you that could help you. I have tons of e-mail addresses for different things. I use my "junk" e-mail address at MSN for all my Internet surfing - mylot, mypoints, inboxdollars, all that stuff. My ISP also offers like 10 e-mail address, each with an alias. I use my "regular" e-mail address for friends and family. I have a business address I use for anything relating to being a CPA. I have a "formal" address I use for my home-banking, and stuff like that. I have another business address I use for my home-based business. I use them for different things. Now, I set up my e-mail program (I use Eudora, but Outlook does this too) to check ALL of them and then sort them into individual mailboxes for each address. It does take a bit to set it up, but once you do it, you can see at a glance how many mylot e-mails, business e-mails, joke e-mails, whatever, have come in and then you don't have to weed through them. Your ISP should offer more e-mail addresses so you could set yours up too. Good Luck!

I don't think that someone will get offended because of it. Why would they? You only notify them on 'Off'. It's not that you delete them or something. Anyway, I hope that your e-mail problem will solve quickly, and all of your friends would get their notifacation 'On'.

I don't think you should be too concerned with putting your friends on the "off" setting. It is more important for you not to miss important emails, especially ones dealing with your work or business. You should do whatever is best for you and not worry so much about offending your mylot friends.

Hi. Sorry thsi ahppened to you. I never put my email alert on for that very reason-- I don't want to get bombarded with emails. I would much rather just check my friend's discussions for new posts.
