Guard Cat! Anyone else have a cat that does this?

Sasha - Sasha is so protective of me!

Talking recently in another thread about jealous dogs, and Guard Dogs, I got to thinking about my cat Sasha! My Sasha is more like a dog than a cat - and if anyone gets too close to me, he will go for them, just like a guard dog will. I once had some builders in, and when I made them tea and biscuits, one of them reached across me to get a biscuit, and Sasha flew at him like a mad dog! I guess he thought he was protecting me, and that the guy was going to hurt me in some way. He also growls and hisses at the postman!!! So has anyone else got a cat like Sasha - or is he unique?!

LOL, what a great story. I've had lots of cats. Blackie (I got her when she was a kitten. I've talked about her before). Well, she didn't like my X-hubby. she wouldn't come near him, even when he called her. (she had good taste). My old tom cat "protected" me from my hubby (the one I'm with now). ROFLOL! ;) when we would go to bed, he would lay with his back to me & use his feet to push my hubby away from me. He's actually moved him over doing that. I called him my lil football player, he was built like a football player with all his padding on him. We learned that if we were going to fool around, we had to close the door & not let him in. (he bit my hubby on his butt, cause he thought he was hurting me) LOL My momma cat likes to meet me when I pull into my driveway. She knows I can't bend very good, so she jumps onto stuff to let me pet her.

Oh! I forgot to tell you something else about my tom cat. He ruled the neighborhood. if any dogs got in our yard, he chased them off. LOL I've heard more than one dog yelping because he gave it a bloodie nose. ;)

Lovely stories Michelle - thanks for sharing. Your story of Blackie and your husband, reminds me of my old cat Tansy, who used to sit on the bed and stare beligerantly at my partner when we first got together! We used to have to lock her out of the room too because he said she used to "unnerve" him - LOL!

My cat Ghost is like yours. My husband calls her my guard kitty. She will lay by me on the couch and if someone tries to sit next to me she will growl at them. She is really bad when I take a shower as she will get on the counter and stay there until I am finished in the bathroom. Once my husband tried to come in while I was in the shower and all I heard was her growl and then I guess that she jumped off of the counter at him. She scratched up his hands pretty bad. He says that we don't need a big guard dog as I have her to protect me.

LOL! Well Sasha doesn't follow me into the bathroom, but one of my other cats, Lily, is fascinated by the water. She sits on the side of the bath, or just outside the shower, and stares at the water. Thanks for responding.

LOL! Yes he does wag his tail - but sadly only when he is angry. Cats always wag their tales when they are angry!!

My cat Misty, who I had when I was a child, always used to fetch just like a dog! It was cute!

He is definitely unique and he sounds like a fantastic guard cat. Never had any experience like that before. My cats are all show-offs. Whenever we have guest, they are the entertainer...lol

We have a cat, actually a stray cat who sleeps at our doorstep almost everyday. He's a sweet lil fellow, he likes to rub his head to everybodys feet. He greets people who walks through our door with his loud, long and scary meow. what i like about this cat is, everytime i go out alone late at night, he walks with me along the street (like a bodyguard) until i reach the main road. Cats do care, i guess.

My cat use to do that all the time. HE was like a guard dog. He would sit by the door when I would leave and he would be in the window , when my car would pull up he would run down the stairs to greet me.

I think Sasha is unique! I have a cat named Dobby, actually it's my daughter's cat, but I believe he has claimed me as the one to be dealt with. He has to be touched all the time. If he wants to be rubbed and you ignore him, then he will rub you a few times. If that doesn't work, then he stands ion hind legs and boxes you, or will attack your hair. I have long hair so it bites mine like it is a snake. lol. I am more of a dog person but this cat is determined to be the ONLY pet in the house. It seems Sasha has claimed you as his own. Does he sleep in your bed, by any chance?

LOL! Yes he does! I have 4 other cats, but none of them sleep on the bed, because he won't let them! He is definately "king cat" in this household, and I am obviously his Queen! Dobby sounds lovely by the way!

That's a fat cat! o.O I love when they're like that, all protective and stuff. My cat would kill the large river rats that were all around our house because he thought they were dangerous - and they actually were - most of them had rabies! But he would do this cool victory cry whenever he put any of them "to sleep". Muahah...Quite entertaining.

Wow how funny! My cat sometimes thinks she is a dog. She used to fetch things and stuff. But she also thinks she IS queen! She will smack my little dog on the butt so they can "play" but my dog doesnt get that and thinks she is upset and comes to me like mommy? Cats are funny! I'm always laughing at what my crazy cat will do :D

Cats truly are funny animals. My cat would never confuse herself as a dog, he's too busy thinking he is human. He prefers to be cradled in your arms. He's the first lap cat I have encountered.

i have a cat named "Dos" which means two in english, because he was the secomd of three kittens that i took care of. Dos is a natural guard cat because whenever i get home from work he will be outside lying on the ground as if he is guarding a bank!!And everytime he gets home he would meow so loud that he wakes up my boyfriend.this loud meow is a sign that he is hungry and he wants food NOW. But dos is a relly sweet cat, and would sleep beside me and my boyfriend every night. Take care!!

Not like my cat,then....He's Shy around strangers and will run to the back room or outside if someone He doesn't know comes around..if they're staying for a while, eventually He'll come out,but will then sit on my lap and doesn't tend to socialise..

I don't have a cat like that but I do think you have a very special cat. I'm surprised though that he'd do this but it's also no wonder if he thinks your part of his pride. lol

When I was living alone, I had a cat who woke me up with his growling. Someone was walking around the outside of my house. It turned out to be a friend of mine, but it was the first time that I experienced a "guard" attitude in a cat.

i have not got a cat that protects me but i found out that a bird was watching over me... One day i was going to school and some guy approached me and a bird started attacking him so i didn't do anything. i thought the bird was an angel watching over me at first cuz i am religious.. and the bird sometimes chirps at people that are talking to me, which is kinda annoying..
