Cellphones have become a necessity for most people. It use while driving have been linked to a considerable number of road accidents. Some countries have banned the use of cellphones while driving. Do you think this is a good measure?

It should be banned to use cellphone while driving specially if he or she is sending text messages and reading text messges. Answering a call would be fine if the person is using a headset. I really hate if I ride in public transportation and the driver is using his cellphone. He is not thinking of his passengers anymore. It is 99 percent accidents will occur because of that. Specially in my country, it is a city of text messages. Anywhere you are you can see people texting. My goodness!

Answering a call using a headset is fine as long as he doesn't get to involved in the discussion that he loses focus on the road ahead. But to be able to send text messages, one has to use both hands and eyes. This act definitely diverts the driver's attention.

I think texting should definitely be banned while driving. Although some may say that they can do both at the same time, I still think it's very dangerous. Making phone calls is okay since you can use a headset anyway or you can hold your phone with one hand and still keep your eyes on the road. Unlike with texting, you have to look at the road and the phone alternately and that's very scary. I once got into a cab whose driver kept on texting and I was praying the whole time.

Yes using a headset is an option. But holding it is a no-no. I believe both hands are need in driving. You need both your hands and eyes and your full attention when driving.
