Like most crafters I have tried out a lot of different crafts. From making soap, and cards, to making beaded jewelry and candles, crafting is a huge part of my life...and frankly the supplies are taking up a huge part of my apaprtment! But, if I had to choose only one craft to stick with I think it would be knitting. I really enjoy the act of knitting. I find it soothing. Also a huge variety of yarn textures and colors help keep projects exciting. Not to mention how many different thing can be made with knitting...clothes, bags, stuffed toys and even bookmarks. If you had to choose one craft to keep doing going forward, what would it be, and why?

I have been asking myself this question for years and I still don't think I have an answer. I feel like I try just about everything to relax. Crafting for me has been a way to find my ultimate sit back relaxation project. I have a ton of stress in my life and crafting tends to take my mind off things. But I never really stick with one thing. I have tried jewelry making, which is and was very fun, but pricey. I have done soap making, fun, but messy at times. And I have also tried my hand at scrapbooking. I am horrible at that. I've been trying t scrapbook my wedding album for over two years. I don't have the patience or the imagination for it. So now, upon your high recomendation, I just started to attempt knitting. I got one of those learn to knit kits for my birthday and am trying to make a basic scarf. I've only gotten as far as making the first line on one needle. Now I have to actually figure out how to really knit. The instructions I have are bad, I am totally clueless, but I'm finding that I enjoy the repetativeness of the motions (a little OCD helps with that) and learning something new. So I guess I don't have a favorite, I just like crafting.

We can have a learn to knit night :-) But I think you are right. I am also a little OCD, and that's probably why the repetitive nature of knitting is so soothing to me. I just stareted a regular old garter stitch scarf last night (in a cool bumpy yarn), and working on it while watching House and some DVD's of Nip/Tuck was really relaxing.

I made Christmas ornaments. I use felt, cut out a pattern, glue or stitch on accents, stuff then hand stitch the edges. It does take a bit of time to make them but if I do 30 at a time, it's like an elf assembly line process LOL. When I tell people that I am into crafts they generally give me a funny look ... if you saw a pic of me, you'd know that I don't look like the kind of person that does crafts LOL

Those sound cool, and probably make great gifts! Aww... I think crafting has come a long way. The DYI movement has definately made it more main stream...not to mention all those crafting shows on the DYI channel. Also with sites like craftster.org, I think crafting has become much more funky.

I would choose knitting as well. It's very versatile in what you can produce, and there isn't a lot of very finicky work. You can do simple things, like garter stitch scarves, or spend more time and do more complicated things.

I agree about it being less finicky. Knitting is a little more forgiving with mistakes...if there is a mess-up you can just unravel it!

I would have to say I would stick to my papercrafting, I do scrapbooking, cardmaking, book making anything with paper. I just love it.

That is awesome. I'm actually lousy at paper crafts. The things I make, just don't look right. I'm so jealous of people who can make such beautiful cards and scrapbooks. It's such a talent.

For me it might be embroidery. Though I have a tendency to burn myself out on it really quickly, I seem to like it the best because I am most proud of the things that I embroider. It's really fun to personalize zippered sweatshirts, pillows, and handbags with cute little toches. It's also really easy to just print out your own stencils. After that, I think I enjoy needle felting. Needle felting is very freeing and it's easy to fix your mistakes. I like crafts that allow me to build things in little bits so I have a lot of control over what I'm doing.

I am awful at embroidery...and sewing for that matter. I think it's too exact for me. I do use a lot of needle felting to embelish some of my knitting...especially felted purses.

I love crafting as well. I worked in a craft store through both high school and college. I love to make candles, jewelry, painting, scrapbooking. Crafting can get so expensive. Scrapbooking is probably my favorite thing to do. I helps me to relax. As I mentioned though, it can be so costly. So, I usually wait until there is a sale on the scrapbooking stuff and then I go and add to my collection.

Scrapbooking has become so popular and there are some really cool products out there. I can't help but squeal when I see some of the adorable little accessories you can use to decorate your page. Have you thought about selling some of the scrapbooking pages you make? Just leaving blank spaces for people to put in their own pictures? I sell some of my knitting and it helps me to finance the habit, so to speak.

I have been doing crafts for a very long time. I cross stitch, plastic canvas, knit, crochete, quilt, sew and scrapbook. My favorite craft to date is quilting. I make quilts and then sell them, so my hobby is now becoming a way for me to earn a little extra income. I would love to learn how to make jewlry.

I would like to learn how to knit. I can kinda crochet. I have made beaded jewelry, I have cross-stiched. I have made things with Macrame. I have done a lot of arts and crafts when I was younger. I constantly needed to be doing something. My favorite craft (the one that I still have the most supplies for) is soap-making. I have 200 scents, colors, glitter, toys, molds, etc. I haven't done it in a while, but I still have all the supplies. I've just found out recently that the scents can go bad, so my brother's girlfriend is going to be huge chunks of clear and white glycerin and we are going to make tons and tons and tons of soap. We may sell it at the sunset festivals at pier 60 or just give it as gifts.

I think my favorite would be crocheting. I love a wide variety of crafts, but I am almost always in the middle of some kind of crocheting project. It is calming, doesn't require too much attention (I can do it and watch TV), its portable (GREAT for the commute to work), and there are so many options.

I feel the same way about knitting. I can do it and still watch a movie, or TV, and it's more portable than making soap, that's for sure!
