When I take a screenshot on a computer game I play, it saves as a TGA file. I can't open these files and I can't seem to figure out how to change the file type to a file I can view. Are there any freeware programs that will allow me to view TGA files? I don't do enough with them to purchase editing software, I just need something basic that will let me open then and possibly save them as gifs or jpegs. Thanks!

.tga files can opened with ACDsee, I sugest you to use ACDsee because you can convert that graphic format to jpeg or any format can be opened with easy.

how are you taking the screenshot? Using the print screen button or something else? if you use the print screen button, you should be able to see the image in MS Paint.
