Mylot is not a CHARITY...

I don't know if all of you have noticed, but there are discussions circulating because people are asking for money. I could just not believe this, I could not believe that everyone was responding, even though they were not going to give that/those person(s) money. I have to say, I reported these discussions, to get them removed. And, I had asked some friends to do this also. My mylot friends, please do not respond, there are people who do not understand that solicitations for money over the Internet, are a crime, and dangerous scams. This is something that has been occuring mostly on dating sites (I know, because my husband's friend has been scammed more than once). They give you a sob story, asking for money. Beware, do not support these people, they are fraudulent, and widespread. And, as my friend stated, mylot, is not a charity.

I noticed someone wanted $10,000. After reading the post, I still couldn't understand why the guy wanted it. Something about needing it give to his girlfriend's parents. You are right, too many scams. If I had the means, I wouldn't mind helping out a few of those truly in need. But, it is difficult to know who is honest. I have a tendancy to believe people to be more honest than not. However, I haven't fallen for any scams.

I have received similar requests in my junk email. These guys make a career out of scamming people.

That is amazing, because the one that I reported, was about a girl that needs to give it to her boyfriend's parents...how pathetic. I am glad that you have not fallen for any yet, I worry, because I sometimes have a hard time believing that people are scammers also. But this time, I really could not get myself to believe it. It seemed made up and like a scam.

Yes, that is the one that I reported for sure, at least 3 times, I was so mad. And, I had seen a few copycats too, but I guess mylot got to them on their own.

Good work my friend.I mean you did very good by reporting them.I can't say if they believe that mylot is a charity but certainly they believe we are so fool and we can give to them money just like this. This make me worry is that actually they find foolish people here.Just make you wonder......

Exactly, that is what I worried about, after reading some of the responses on that discussion. I wanted to respond and say to them, you are lying, I do not believe your scam, then, I decided instead, to get it removed, and I cannot find it, so it must be gone...I hope others helped, to get it removed. This person had many people responding.

Have not come across those. Do have one friend that is looking to see if someone wants to retire to the Philipines and such though. I warned her about theives that could prey upon her. Wonder who these are, would be nice to know. Glad that you reported them. I always have a problem when money is asked for. I usually give them my sob story about my fire and if anything they need to donate to me. That usually shuts them up. Hope that Mylot takes care of these. It sure would ruin a fun place to learn and earn.

Yes, it would. In fact, there were a few circulating that really got to me, and that is why today I finally had to write about it. I am sorry about your fire, I read it on your page. I hope that you are doing well now. I also, know where you are coming from, about needing money, most of us do. I have college to pay for, and debt accumalating for my hubby and I, we can barely pay our business expenses. But, there are some people who has a little nest egg for retirement, and they do get duped.

I have seen a couple of them. One was from a girl claiming that she need to buy a laptop for her exams as she was going to qualify as an accountant shortly. She sure had a funny way of doing her figures. I have also had friends requests and when I accepted them I received pms asking for money. You will get the scammers on every site. I am glad you brought up this discussion as you may have saved some unsuspecting indivdual from parting with their hard earned money.

Thank you. I had no idea that it was so rampant here on mylot also. Goodness, that is just horrible. I am glad also, that this discussion is out now, yesterday, I did not write it, when I really wanted to, and then, this morning, after seeing copycats, I got upset and had to say something. I really want everyone to beware and be careful. There are too many kindhearted people here that can be fooled.

I agree with you most folks sign on here and whilst the money is small often they need it why give a beggar a forum if they need money do what the rest of us do get a job and earn itanother thing that appaled me on here was someone boasting about how he had stolen money from someone and gotten away with it I found this despicable and turned him in to my lot I was sure this is not what they want this to be about However to date they have done nothing about it it is still here so maybee they realy dont care whats done on here?

Really? That is the first time that I have heard of that one. I believe it is the way that you report it. You, should report them as scammers, because mylot does remove people and discussions, many of us have seen it happen. I hope that if I find out who it is, I can get him/her removed, because it is unsafe to have a "criminal" in our midst.

Yeah.. some people may do such things... but if you're smart and wanna stop them.. you can. You have two options.. give them a negative rating for the discussion and responses.. if it is sufficiently low.. myLot delets the discussion before payday and poof.. no charity.. if you report abuse... this happens before payday and once again.. poof.. no charity.. lol good luck on your mission :D

I haven't seen charity-like discussions on mylot for quite a long time. When I first joined here that's all you would see- charity discussions, spammers and copied and pasted discussions. Rest assured that mylot does delete discussions when they are reported and have went against guidelines but they can't always find the discussions themselves, that's why the "report" button is so important...so good job for reporting it.

thank you for your advice, but what if it's people that really need help, like the children is sick and they need a lot of money for the hospital. I know it's hard to know if it's true or not, so I suggest just follow your feeling, do you think it's true or not, or do you want to give money or not..

I believe that asking money from anyone, on this site is against the rules, but also, it is hardly appropriate. There is a time and place for everything. We all need money, but it is just not safe to be giving it away...there are more scammers than honest people out there.

I saw one or two of these when I first joined "Please send just a little money to my Pay Pal account" etc. but I have not run across any in the last month or so. I guess my scope is narrower, and myLot is bigger, so I missed it. I will report this as abuse if I see it. Thanks for the heads up.

How someone can do such thing? They fool everyone here, and getting paid for! It really bugs me to know that there are people that love to be so missrable, and to get money from charity. Charity is for people who really NEED it! Not to people that has money, and want to increase their bank account in some illegal way. I hope that the police will find those scammers, and give them a proper punishment, because they deserve it!

Being mean to others is just not fun. Anything derogatory that is directed at a myLot user is strictly prohibited. Just be nice and have fun! Request donations, post charity requests, petitions for signatures, chain letters or letters ...

I am sorry that you feel that way, but you should read the rules. Your idea is against the rules, and it is not going to get you anywhere here, because it is not mean of people to go agianst those that ask for money here. I do not know how you can think that. You seem like you are new here, so please be informed of the rules, before people mark you down, when you did not know what you were doing. I am not mean and derogatory...I do not believe that you understand what you are even implying.

BlogFeast Charity Support. BlogFeast Charity Support ... It's not unreasonable to think that you can make an extra $50 to $100 a month at mylot after you have been writing there for a while and, most importantly, have some referrals. ...

That is what most saddens me about, scammers who ruined the chances of people who really needed that sum of money. Without considering the genuine situations of the needy, scammers have nonchalently destroy the only hopes of those who needed help. It has become such a confusion, that we cannot really identify, who are the real people in need. I cannot bring myself to not help those we really needed some money to pay of their debts, or medical expenses. Though there are some many scammers that are, around, there are those who really needed help. However, we have to recgonize that giving money should not be the resolve out of symphathy of the person. We should clarify whether it is a real needy person before we help. Like many emails we see, people who are in need seeked others to foward their mails, just as to earn a few cents from large co-operations for every email forwarded to each person. Sometimes, I wonder if that was true, but with little effort,I was able to send it to my friends, and family. There is no money transaction over there, its just an effortless help. MyLot is definitely not a place for people to beg for money, though it is a socially, globalized interaction domain, it doesn't qualify, or accept beggers to come here, seeking for cash. The poster is right, if I were to see such kinds of request in discussions, I would rate it as a negative, and report is as a lousy discussion. That is what I could do at least, as a MyLot user.

Fair Enough, thanks for letting me know. I did reply to this person who wants $10,000. It was so ridiculous, but kind of sad, that I couldn't help myself. I will avoid it next time. I'm still getting used to the rules.

JB, I had to literally stop myself from posting to her, that she was so ridiculous and that she shouldn't be asking anyone for money, when her sob story is totally unbelievable, because that was what I had wanted to do first. And then, I said to myself that I will have to report this, and forget about her, when her discussion disappears, that is better than he getting money off of people telling her that her story is pathetic.
