2 weeks after i had my baby, a friend of mine wanted to meet me and see my new born. i had to drive 30 minutes from our meeting place. as i was driving, a police car stopped me... i was so scared because that was the first time i was ever stop by a police and that was the first time i drove again after my pregnancy... i was like thinking what i did wrong as the police was approaching... i wasn't driving fast. my baby was at the back seat! could it be that i didn't put my seatbelt? when the police came, he told me that my car wasn't allowed to be driven for that day. (here in the Philippines, we have a color coding system wherein you are not allowed to drive your car on a specific day according to the end number of your plate number.) DARN!!! I totally forgot... To end my story.. I took the ticket and went on my way... I could never bribe a police. I feel like that is not totally right! even though it is really rampant here in my country... so have you ever tried bribing a police officer??? care to tell your story...

Wait, you aren't allowed to drive your car on a certain day? That is absolutely crazy! Why?!?!?! Is that because of traffic? That would be terrible, in the US we would never have anything like that put on us. Can you explain that a little more?

well, they base the day that you can't drive your car according to your plate number. like plate numbers ending in 1 and 2, can't drive on Mondays, then 3 and 4 on Tuesdays and so on. we don't have th color coding scheme on weekends which is good... we've got like a lot of traffic here.. so to lessen the traffic, they made that rule... a lit of people don't like it but we don't have a choice or we would get caught...

probably to cut down on congestion, pollution, gasoline usage etc. In some cities in the US you cannot use the far left lane unless 2 or more in the vehicle. Seem simple, but may be the sign of things to come depending on growth.

I can't really say that I have tried to bribe an officer, however I have tried to talk my way out of tickets, lol. It doesn't work too often though :( And I have tried crying, it doesnt work. I don't understand why you can only drive on certain days, to me thats insane what if your child had to go to the doctor or something? I guess Im just used to the freedoms here in the states.

that's crazy, they should try driving here during rush hour, lol, or Atlanta Georgia where you have an 8 lane interstate that is packed with bumper to bumper traffic, lol. I would be really annoyed too.

they say they want to control the traffic here. but at times it is really annoying... like sometimes, my family and i wanna go somewhere but we couldn't go out because of that color coding scheme.

Upon reading the title of your topic I was kinda thinking hmm could this person possibly be from the Philippines? haha.. cause I live there too and it is indeed rampant over there.. People would always give those delinquent cops like 50 bucks to a hundred just to be spared given a ticket... and more often those cops are the ones who even initiate or ask money, they'll say "pang merienda" or something... Goodness! Hopeless! ahaha!

ok i've never actually tried to bribe a police officer to get out of trouble but i almost got myself in major trouble one night bt comming onto a chief of police. i was a lot younger and was drinking a lot. we went to a hotel to check in, there was a man checking in in front of us. when the person at the desk asked him if he wanted two keys he said one was fine, i yelled out two, one for me. he turned and said i don't think my wife would like that, i then replied she can join us. then the person at the desk said do you know you are talking to the cheif of the police. i was so embarrased then. i'm glad he didnt' say anything.

hey at least here in our country, its bit easy to bribe our officers, in fact they talk in a way that would clearly give signals that they need money and not much of an explanation!! Once i was returning from my college and was caught by a cop, though there was not much of my fault but they simply do this to extract money..... he then asked such a lot of irrelevant questions that i had to give some bucks to shut his mouth and leave me alone.

No, first of all it is dishonest and the bribe would probably be more than the ticket plus if he didn't take it I would be charged with attempted bribery. Not worth it.

I never tried to bribe but I remember telling an officer once that if i were late one more time for work i would get fired. He gave me a warning, probably, had nothing to do with my story but i was happy.

I admit, I have bribed a police officer..It really depends on the police officer..Some can look serious and be STRIAGHT by the book... A lady cop, I know I can hang it up...lol Some can be rather friendly and nice and smile..Those are the ones I can "try" to bribe... thank gawdness I only been pulled over twice, therefore It only worked once :) Taught me a lesson though, not all cops was like this generous cop was...lol

Wow! I'm like a lot of people here, still reeling from the fact that you can't drive your car on a certain day. That's just amazing! I'm pretty sure that wouldn't go over here in Canada, but I guess it's whatever you get use to. I've never tried to bribe a police officer either, and really can't ever see me doing something of that nature. I think it's horrendous that there are actually cops out there who would accept a bribe instead of just doing their jobs properly.

I've never tried to do this, but my dad onc did. He was caught speeding in Baja, and he'd heard that the police in that area were easily bribed. The cop wrote him a ticket, and my dad was, like, "Should I pay this now, or should I pay this later?" THe police officer took the money. Now, me, I'd never attempt to bribe an officer. Here in America, it is illegal to do that and you could actually get a HIGHER fine for trying to do so. If, for any reason, I was issued a ticket (in my case, extremely unlikely) I'd rather just take my chances, contest the ticket, and show up in court. I've heard that a lot of the time, the officer will be too busy to actually bother to show up for something as minimal as a traffic ticket.

Well, i live in India. In my country, we dont have to "try" to bribe the police. They ask for bribe themselves. Specially the traffic police. If you are caught over speeding or rash driving/violation of traffic rules, the easiest way to get out is to bribe. And they themselves ask for it.

What a stupid law. Totaly nonsense. But about the bribing, in eastern Europe police officers sometimes make fake tickets just to get paid so we have to bribe them. I don`t like it, but I had few times when I had to bribe.

No, I have never done this and I can not say as I have even thought about doing it. Here in the US you can get into big trouble for trying to bribe a police officer, it would be worse then the ticket for whatever you did wrong. I don't think that people should try to do this.

haha very funny. no i havent tried to bribe a police officer. in my country though, it's very common to bribe a police officer. i remember i was going on vacation and we got pulled over and a cop came over to tell us we were in the wrong lane and that he was gonna write us a ticket. my uncle pulled 1000 pesos from his pocket *that's $20* and handed it to the police officer and he let us go without a ticket, haha too funny. but anyway, i haven't tried it before. i know a friend of mine was speeding and she was pregnant at that time and the police officer was going to write her a speeding ticket and my friend just started crying and telling the police officer she has to be there for her appointment and she's late and the p.o. let her go. im just too scared to try i guess
