Just got my cat fixed....Is this normal?

Ok..I have a GORGEOUS 6 month old calico kitten. She really is adorable I love her so much. :) Her name is Bee, and we just took her to the vet about three and a half weeks ago and got her fixed. She made it through the surgery fine, recovered afterwards, (although I must say seeing a cat coming down off of anesthesia is quite hilarious. She looked and acted like she was drunk, or stoned. heh.), the stitches dissolved etc. Anyways, here we are now and I just have a couple of questions. First of all, she is acting very very very strange. Stranger than usual. Could that be any hormones or whatever? Anyone know? The other thing is where the incision was, even though the stitches have come out already, there is still a fingertip sized swelling. I called the vet, but I live out in the boonies and they couldnt tell me anything without me having to drive three hours to get there. Does anyone know anything, any advice or experience that might help before we have to bundle her up in her carrier and prepare for another long, loud car trip?

I think I'd make that 3 hr drive. We adopted an older cat (10 at the time) who has, we've discovered, a hernia at the site of her spay incision. Now, at 16, we aren't going to put her under if we can avoid it, and, so far, the hernia hasn't changed any. I also don't know how she's acting that is stranger than usual that might be a red light, if you were a little more specific I could also be more specific.

Well, strangeness in that usually she is a very affectionate cat. She usually loves to cuddle and snuggle and have me pet her, and be near me. But lately she has been withdrawn, won't even let me touch her, won't exercise, is not eating as much as she used to and is obsessively compulsively grooming herself. And as for the site, its just still swollen, it isn't red, or hot, or hard like they told us to look for, so I don't know. What do you think?

I'd call the vet for an appointment. She sounds like she isn't feeling well, and she should be well passed all that stuff. Even if it isn't related to her spay, she may have something else going on. My vet lets us come in when they are open without appointments (except for operations) and I'm in there enough that they know me by name & only ask which cat I've got with me. I'd have her at the vet yesterday, but I've been told I'm too careful, but hey, they are my babies.

I agree, if she is withdrawn and not eating (although mine didn't eat the first day after) and has low energy. Its time for a vet visit. Those are all warning signs of something wrong.

I would take her to the vet. If she is not eating normally and is withdrawn that is usually a sign that something is wrong with her and needs to be seen by a vet. If she is obsessively grooming that area it might still be bothering her. She could have some type of infection and that's why there is still swelling there. A vet really would need to see her to evaluate it and the sooner the better.

Thanks for all of your guy's advice, we are taking her to the vet tomorrow, and get her taken care of before getting my wisdom teeth cut out. Oh joy.

The hormones should start to settle down now, thtas normal its been a few weeks now, but I would get her checked just in case, My cat had a lump like that, it could be a bit of intestine or fatty tissue. (not to scare you) but it happens sometimes. Also if its red and swollwn and it hurts her I would definantly get her checked, or maybe ring another vet and see what they say about it, it might be nothing and ok

I think you need to make that long ride in. It sounds like she might ahve in infection which could be bad. As for her hormones after being spayed, I'v never heard of that. When I had my cats spayed, they were just tired for a few days and then went back to being themselves agian.
