How often do you walk and how far?

February 19, 2007 8:19pm CST
Tomorrow i'm hoping to be well enough to go out. You know us guys. hehe How often do you walk and how far? Of course i don't mean getting up and going to work. i mean walk a good distance and enjoy it. I personally work nearly everywhere my wife and i go recently. (sometimes we catch a tram on the way back to this area) mainly when where tried. Most cases i would say over 3 miles, because lately we've been walking to another area because we're buying in little things for our future home. we also walk daily, sometimes not as much as other but we like walking as a form of exercise. What about you? ~Joey

I really like to undertake free walk. I used to walk a lot with the local teenagers even couple of months ago in Kolkata Maidan. It really helps me to keep fit and energetic. But now I'm overloaded with different types of activities also my companions are busy with their final examination. So, there is really no scope for me to walk down the Kolkata Maidan anymore. But I'll start walking again once their exams are over.

Hi nilzerous1, It's nice to hear you enjoy walking. For me it's my favourite excerise and most people seem to discount it but walking involves more than running. (in the way that you can't run everywhere, although you can stop and mix things) Goodluck with your exams and thank you for your response. ~Joey

I like walking as a part of my exercise. But from last two months I am not going for a walk because it's very cold here outside. In good warm weather I go for walk regularly. But I can't go more than two miles. I think that's ok if you do it regularly. I really enjoy it. I am just waiting for good warm weather to go for a walk.

I started walking a few weeks ago. I felt a little snug in my jeans. So, now when hubby gets home from work I go for a walk around the development I live in. It's a complete circle a little over a mile. I haven't walk un a week because I twisted my foot. I can certainly feel the difference in my energy level. I have found walking rleives my stress and it allows me to get my lazy butt off the computer. I felt like I had more energy. I can't wait til my foot is back to normal. It really is an inconvience especailly when I have to chase my 2 year old daughter around the house.

Whenever I am working and walking with co-workers during luch breaks, I always feel energized. I will even find myself looking forward to the walks. However, when I am not working, like now, I am the laziest person. I have no desire to walk alone, and I have practically begged everyone to go with me. No one is ready to have "be healthy" at the top of their must do lists. I have accumulated 25 over the past year and know that if I just get off my butt that I can walk it off in less time than I put it on, but I just have no gumption. Any suggestions?

I don't walk nearly as much as I should, unfortunately. My family even bought a treadmill a few years back which sits in my bedroom, and it would be so easy and convienent for me to get in there once a day and walk on it, and I rarely do now. I've gone through phases where I exercised with fast walking on it for a good 20-30 minutes twice a day, actually. When I get into doing something, I tend to go all out. But then, when I get bored, I just tend to give up and move on with some other thing in life that I've gotten interested in. But it's nice to know that the treadmill is there, in case I ever feel like using it, lol. I do walk quite a bit in the summers, when I'm out at our local amusement park. I'm sure that I walk the equivalent of at least a mile or two a day just walking around out there when I'm there, and I hopefully lose some weight that way between the walking and the sweating when it gets really hot, lol!

I used to walk 1-3 miles per day until I developed a foot problem. I have had some custom inserts made for my shoes and am having to build up my activity gradually. I can't wait until I can walk distances again...I miss it! (and boy have I put on the weight)

Joey, Joey, Joey. You make me feel so bad without meaning to. I have acquired an additional 25 pounds over the past year due to 8 months of unemployment. Just when I got back to work (last August) I walked a lot on the job and enjoyed it. I would find myself parking further away in parking lots just to get that walk. Then in January, I was laid off, finding myself once more unemployed. This time trying to fight for unemployment benefits is hard due to the fact that the work year I only had five months of employment. :-( Anyway, since I am not working now, I have become quite lazy and I will plan to walk up and down my street at least once, but I never actually get up and get out of the house. But when I am working, I usually walk two miles a day with co-workers during lunch breaks at least three times each week if not every day. If there's a lot of gossip to catch up on, that's when it's done. It's a way to survive in the place of employment, especially if you just listen.

I walk to and from work every day. That's only a total of about 20 minutes, though! A friend that I work with, has recently sold the car, and now she walks to work and back, three times a week; that's a total of 1 hour 10 minutes a day! Don't I feel positively lazeeeeeeeeee!

chargoans, I'm sorry to here about being laid off. I've been through that once, got forced out of my job because the boss wanted waiteress's not waiters. It's good to hear you enjoy walking tho. Goodluck and take care! ~joey

Owh Joey, i can't really answer your discussion this time, i usally don't walk though lol. I think that is why i am getting fatter and fatter. I always try to have a nice exersice even with walking but when the times comes, the laziness makes me stay put lol. In my armies day's i can easily jog for 2 miles but now with all the fats hanging around my waist. I can't even go to 1/2miles lol. I really need a good exercise though.

walking and or hiking - some person looking at a sign while on a hike/walk
I personally enjoy walking and think it is the best way to get around, granted you have the time to walk. I live in New York City and right now it is a bit cold to walk so I would say that I walk less then a mile a day. However, when the weather gets warmer I love walking down the West Side Highway or just getting lost in the city. My boyfriend has gotten me into walking a lot more which I think is great because walking alone sometimes gets boring and I don't know about anyone else but when I walk by myself I tend to walk the same routes. When I'm with my boyfriend we just walk all over the place and try to get lost while were at it (which is nearly impossible on a small island like Manhattan). My boyfriend is from Colorado and I went to visit him there last summer which was amazing. While there I would have to say we walked about 6 - 10 miles a day. We went camping and would just leave our campsite early in the morning and find these nature trails that would lead us to a basin or the some of the smaller mountains in the rockies and then we would climb the mountain take a break at the top go back down the mountain and look for another trail. We would turn back around 4-6pm so that we had a few hours to get back to our campsite before nightfall and then we would eat a protein packed meal to get back our energy. Walking is such a great way to exercise in a calm way. When hiking in Colorado you get a double bonus due to the elevation and the strain it puts on your body. It's definitely worth a visit for you travel junkies.

I like to go for walks. I don't really do it as a form of exercise I just like taking my boys out for a walk. Don't do it so much in the wintertime. But in the summer we are always walking the neighborhood.

I tend to do all of my exercise at the gym to be honest, and the only walking I do is down to my local paper shop to get the lottery and milk which is about 5 minutes down the road. I run 5km on the treadmill 5 days a week, as well as working out on the weights and the rowing machine, so I can be excused for only walking 5 minutes! Kudos to you too my friend.

Well, I can't really say how far I walk everyday but I do know how long it takes me to walk my course. It takes me around twelve minutes to walk from home to the office even though I do walk pretty fast so just assume some calculation. I do trace this route three times a day since I do go home for lunch and I also walk my way home after office. I also do a 20-minute routine on the treadmill four times a week which would include a 5-minute warm-up walk and some 15-minute jog with increasing intensity. The other 3 days would consist of a varied cardio activity. Sometimes a 15-minute jog and some stretching exercises.

Right now with all the snow I really am not doing much outside walking - the snow in my yard is between my knees and my hips, so I'm doing more shoveling than anything else right now! lol When the weather is nice I do like to hike around my property and take long walks into the woods. Generally though I do not walk too much as I live in the country and there are no sidewalks or anything along the roads here - so my walks are more casual.

Unfortunately I don't take walks often. I only go out when I really have to, which is when I got to get to school, otherwise ... no, not too often. It is very nice though so I'll probably try to do more of it this summer when the temperature has gone up a little.

I like taking walks especially at night, around 8:00pm. the streets are empty by then, very few cars which makes it ideal for thinking and meditation. I more or less go for such walks once a week and they last 20 to 30 minutes.
