Have you ever heard of a dog that sucks thumbs???

Chewy - This is my 2 1/2 year old pom-a-pug who is a thumb sucker, and NOT her own thumb. She is absolutely obsessive about this habit. I think she feins for it like a smoker does nicotine. Im not sure if its an insecurity or what, but she has done this for all 2 and 1/2 years of her life.

I have a pom-a-pug named chewy that is 2 and a half years old and every since she was a baby she has sucked on our thumbs. It is the craziest thing. She started out doing it only with my daughter and as chewy got older, she began to accept bigger thumbs. Now she loves mine the most, but if I am busy she will make her rounds suckling with whoever will let her. She will literally scratch and claw you to find your thumb. I have NEVER seen anything like her. I have heard of strange pet habits, but this one takes the cake for me. She not only enjoys her thumbs, but she NEEDS them. If I am gone all day, she is visciously after my thumb when I get home. She is the runt of the litter, and I have her sister too. They were both bottle fed since they were 2 days old. I bottle fed them both, but chewy is the only one that does the thumb thing. Im not sure if its an insecurity or what? Have you ever heard of anything like this, or why she does this?????

Our Maltese dog does that to an extent as well. She will virtually take any finger though, and will alternate between licking, sucking and then very gently biting on it. She is actually so gentle that you don't even get the slightest mark on your finger from her doing it. We picked up to her doing it not that long after we got her, but actually figured she was probably teething. So we didn't really take that much notice. Needless to say we've probably had her for about a year and a 1/2 now and she still is doing it.

My Siamese cat will suck on your earlobe if you are holding him. The kids think it's funny and let him. He will also pat your face as he does it. In fact he looks like he's enjoying himself WAY too much.

Its just security for her, she feels safe. I used to have a horse that would do that, it would drive me crazy, because I had things to do and he just wanted to stand there and suck my thumb, although it was my fault too allowing it to happen.

It makes sense to me that a dog would like that. It brings them back to when they were puppies and suckling their mothers nipples for milk. It also means security for them. It is just like children who suck their thumbs. So yes, it makes perfect sense that a dog good suck your thumb. That is too cute.
