Would you give food which you consider bad to the poor

I didn't like this idea of giving food I don't like eating to the poor. I have always thought that it would be an insult to a person if you give food a day old. But everything changed when a couple of years ago a lady from a not well to do family came to my house and asked for food. We only had food that was almost 2 days old. I was the only one present in the house at the time and I told her that the food was probably stale. But she said it didn't matter. She had a handicapped daughter and 2 grandchildren and they have nothing to eat. I really had no choice but to give her the food. After that we store all the food int he fridge and she comes to my house twice every week.I still have certain reservations giving left over food this way. Have you ever considered that food which you consider bad might be the only food some people might have for the day.

I don't think day old or even 2 day old food is bad. As long as it hasn't gone bad/spoiled, I think it's fine. I think it's great what you're doing. I try to never let food go to waste.

It is still a shock to me that there are people willing to eat food that has gone bad because they have nothing to eat. I don't know whether she eats all the things we give her but we don't like to give her food that has turned real bad. We just don't feel right.Regards

You are very generous. If the food you gave was harmful in any way the woman wouldn't have eaten it. I remember when I was in The Philippines years ago there was a man begging for money to buy milk for his two year old daughter. who wasn't with him at the time. I didn't give him money, but took him to a shop where we bought the largest can of powdered babies milk we could find. I'd rather give food to beggars than money, although sometimes they don't like it. Is your family providing for this woman now on a regular basis?

Yes the lady comes twice every week. Some times we give her clothes and some money for medicines as well. The thing that really got me was when she came to our house first time she explicitly said that she didn't mind even if the food was spoiled. She and her family was ready to eat spoiled food since they had nothing to eat.Regards

Yes, I think about that quite often. I hate throwing away any food because I think that there are so many people starving out there who could use it. What really bothers me is the amount of food that goes to waste in restaurants. I wish that there were a program of some sort where the restaurants could donate whatever is left at the end of the day to people who could use it.

I think most of the left overs from restaurants are probably used as the hottest item the next day.lol. Most of the restaurants use pig farms as waste disposable option. Honestly I have no idea what they do with the leftovers people leave behind in their plates. Regards.
