Cats and dogs will both eat grass because the roughage helps them throw up and clean out their stomachs.

Cats eat grass to settle their stomachs. My own cat, Moomin, will happily eat her cat food but I always know when she has either eaten too much or maybe has an upset stomach as she will go outside and eat the grass.
