When at a restaurant, do you prefer using a straw or drinking from the glass?

When we go out to eat I will usually drink from whatever vessel I am served. I graduated from straws a lOOOOOOOOOOOOng time ago. I feel that they are just childish, and not something a self-respecting adult would use. I usually order coffee when we go out to eat. I don't think a straw would work very well with HOT COFFEE, either.

I prefer only to use a straw when I am out at a resturant. In fact, I wish I could eat off paper plates too. The resturants are not as clean as we would like to think they are, and the glass is held by waitresses/waiters that do not always have good hygene, so I use the staw for everything.

I prefer a straw because that way I can drink water without spilling it all over myself..lol Yesterday we went to an Italian restaurant and we had only water, the waiter didn't bring straws. I dunno if they give straws in that restaurant or not, but my hubby asked for them. I tried drinking without the straw and the glass was too cold. I need a straw everytime.

I prefer to use a straw because I hate the ice hitting my mouth . If I'm in a fancy restaurant I don't use a straw. But under most circumstances I do. Once in a while I just order it with no ice and then I don't bother using a straw.

I like to drink from a straw, for a couple reasons. One, I don't get to use a straw all that often, and it's kinda fun. Two, some drinks are really fun to blow bubbles in. I know this is rude in polite company, but I usually go out with my boyfriend and he thinks it's fun too. Three, I like to shoot the straw wrapper off the end of the straw at the person I'm with. I make sure to pick up all straw wrappers off the floor before I leave.

i like drinking using straw when it cool and ice. you see, i have a very sensitive teeth and i need straw to protect it from ice. but when my drink its hot i prever to drink it without straw other wise i will hurt my tongue because its too hot.

I always prefer to use a straw. Lots of times I see waitresses pick up a glass with their hands and touch the rim of the glass. I figure there's less germs to come in contact with if using a straw because the inside of the glass is still clean from it being washed.

I prefer to use a straw because who knows how clean the cups really are (shivers)? My mother and I were once out for lunch together and she didn't notice the lipstick on the side of the cup until she was half way done her drink (she doesn't wear lipstick). She didn't make a big deal about it but I could tell she was a bit grossed out..

In a restaurant I never use a straw to drink. I use it if only I must, for example in the bus, or train, or in the car, when I do not want my drink to be spilt.

I refuse to drink from a glass in a restaurant. I just cant seem to do it. Once the waitress forgot to give us one straw and I was the one that was waiting on her to bring one. I got chocked and grabbed my husbands soda and drank from his straw. I just cannot drink from a glass at a restaurant. Phobia I guess.

Even though I agree with the other responders on the questionable cleanliness of the glass, I have a different reason. So all the ice doesn't come crashing all at once at me! When the liquid gets low, and the ice kinda sticks at the bottom of the glass, then all at once, it's in your face. That's why I use a straw! Has it ever happened to you?

Straw - always. Mainly because I can't help picturing someone else's lips, before me, on the edge of the glass. Also, I do not like the feel of drinking out of a glass without a straw. I've even gotten into the habit of drinking from a straw at home unless I'm drinking water or milk - those I drink straight from the glass. Now I feel like a weirdo. LOL

I always use a straw. Why? Because to me, a fountain type drink always tastes so much better thru a straw. Is that wierd? LOL I just think it tastes better with a straw. Even my iced tea at a restaurant seems to taste better thru a straw.

I always use a straw even when at home, I dont know why..I do have this fascination with fountain drinks...I love them..everytime I leave the house I just have to have one. I dont know why, it probably sounds really, really weird, but oh, well. I have always loved straws/

Lots of people seem to worry about the cleanliness of the glasses in restuarants. Silly me, I never even took that into consideration. I use a straw with everything. I'm not sure if we even have glasses at home! I always have a fountain cup in hand...use it with my ice water also. Sensitive teeth...

Well if it is water, i prefer drinking from the glass directly but if it a juicy then i would go with a straw because the juice might stick all around my mouth. And if it sugared it gets sticky around my mouth and i wouldnt like it.

If I am drinking a soda I will use a straw and drink from the can. If it is water I prefer the atraw, I always feel the glasses might be dirty and many times the rims are chipped.

I always use a straw...I don't know how clean the glasses are and I don't want to put my mouth on something...especially if I don't know where it was before coming to my table =)

I prefer to drink from a straw because I know that no one else's mouth has been on it, but also because I just normally like to drink from a straw anyways.

I perfer using a straw. I think that drinking from the cup (glass) shows no manners. Now this is just my opinion. My mother taught me at an early age to always use a straw if one was available.. Also, using a straw helps prevent embarrassing spills in public!!!!
