Does using celebrities really help selling brands?

Celebrities are widely used to sell brands. I found one recent ad of nike using all of 8 celebrity sportsmen endorsing the same in the ad. Does using a celebrity really help in selling it. For kids it may work...kids love to hav everything their hero uses. But for us adults? I for one have have never been attracted to some brand simply because a Tiger Woods or a Federer or a Britney Spears uses it..Britney drinks pepsi..let her..i dont care. What say u?

the question is help selling? In all senses it would help. All again goes by human psychology and the more impact the more convincing and liking. Humans search for trust and belief and that comes to us indirectly if some one whom we like more and they endorse a product that we don't like immediately changes our view over that product and start reading into the features and reviews. If at this stage the promoter acts well and is able to show positives then the product i sold.. the driving force here is celebrities....

I don't care for endorsements from celebrities. I don't believe in designer names. Kids do get drawn into it and that is understandable and I am really not surprised that adults would get drawn into this since everything is about materialism these days. The bigger, the better, the most expensive, the bling. It is all alot of people care about lately.
