i joined an aikido session last night.. we were taught the basics of it, including the technique in rolling. its really good, because it would teach you self defense that doesn't require much power. so long as you have the proper technique and you always get your enerfy from the abdomen area, as they taught... would you ever consider joining this session, especially if you are a girl/lady/woman, for self defense purposes?

aikido is defensive and passive by nature. it doesn't use much force but instead, it uses the aggressor's force against him. the techniques are so easy to learn especially if you're doing it in a very consistent basis. it is a highly recommended martial arts for self-defense

I would definitely be interested in joining up to Aikido classes. My fiance does it and is always asking me to go with him. I am thinking about it. The main reason I would go for is self defence. I have been wanting to join a self defense class for a long time, as I think it's very important for people, especially women nowdays to be able to defend themselves. i think going to Aikido with him would be the perfect opportunity.

I met my wife of six years on the Aikido mat, in my second class actually 1 years ago. I highly recommend it as a very fun form of couples therapy. ;-)

About 10 years ago I practiced ki aikido - which was very gentle and focused mostly on the development of "ki" energy. I am a Zen practioner and was before I went to ki aikido and found it complimented my Zen practice of sitting zazen (Zen meditation) following the breathing in and out of the hara (point in lower abdomen). Although I don't go to ki aikido classes any more (the class closed down), I would say it is a wonderful way of keeping fit and developing a more spiritual outlook on life.

Very good martial art. Its desighned to defend yourself and not hurt your attacker to badly but it can be dangeous.. Also arent they takeing it a bit fast. first claass and your rolling already? gotta learn the stances and forms first
