Should Mylot have a '' suggestion box '' ?

The other day ,one of my friends came up with,what I thought ,was a neat idea .He asked what if Mylot has a ''Suggestion Box''.I thought about it and felt yes, we could use it to put our ideas to improve the site once the idea has been discussed and debated on Mylot and then I remembered that we already have a contact button at the bottom of the page if we want to send an idea.But,it might not be possible for the Admin to go through every message they get on improving the site as they might have already considered and discarded many of them whereas,it's different to send an idea, pros and cons of which have been thoroughly(as much as possible) discussed on Mylot.It would improve not just the site ,but also help the majority who might want to see it implemented.I immediately wanted to thank denmarkguy and thought why not put it out in the open so it could be debated on.Tell me what 'you' think.Should Mylot have a suggestion box ? Why or why not?

On another site, The message box is visible to all, and it is full of people cussing and putting the site down. There are more of them than actual suggestions. Mylot considers our suggestions and also has to think about how it could be abused. When they figure out how to stop the abuse, it may be some thing they will add. For now we should contact them with any ideas we have. They are very good about getting back with you.

It would be good for us, but not so good for MyLot. It would enudated with stupid ideas and take up way too much of their time. I think they probably monitor the discussions and read our wants and needs here. They have made a lot of changes since I have been here, and most of those changes were made based on the discussions about what people wrote they wanted here in MyLot.

I think having a suggestion box would be a wonderful idea.
Only think is...how would one get myLot to see that suggestion?
When I private message them that my notifications have not been working for a week, I have yet to still get a response from them.
And as you said, they are probably overwhelmed with private messages...that a suggestion would probably get shrugged off.
I think myLot should take volunteers to help them out with the site.
Then, maybe they would not feel overwhelmed!

I see your point.I was hoping that with a suggestion box we could add the popular suggestions and they would just have to check just one box or thread and this might decrease the deluge of messages they receive from members,but your observation definitely can't be overlooked.

My dear friend, don't you think we are constantly airing our thoughts and grievances in here. we are always sharing our discomfort levels and discrepancy. i think we can always message to myLot as and when necessary, i , myself have done it couple of times and lemme tell you with a quick revert. so, does the question of SUGGESTION BOX really comes in!! i think the moderators do a great job keeping track of our moves and cater to them promptly.
Moreover, many of us will actually run out of topics taken the hordes of discussions we start regarding myLot each day!!

Glad to know you heard from them so quickly.Actually,I opined that if we send all suggestions to Mylot ,then it might be difficult for them to read every single one and they might skip a good one.So, a suggestion box would allow us to add a suggestion once it has been debated on Mylot and they could follow just that box for member suggestions,but I could be wrong.:)

Yeah, I think myLot should have suggestion box so that every member's ideas can be put together. More brains, more powerful output.

It maybe good, but mylot is already a quite heavy site so I will bother if they do insert it. It'll make it more slower than ever :(

That's probably true.Mylot's been loading little slow on my end .However, at times, the speed suddenly increases and catches me off guard..In a good way of course.

Sorry for the late respond was not able to sign in yesterday and early today been busy with some stuff.
Suggestion box is really a good idea and that will enhance the features of myLot for I really think share ideas from fruitful and creative minds can really do something better in a certain level.

A suggestion box would be very useful, just as a "member relations" tool. But beyond that, myLot IS a "user generated content" site, which means that the people using the site all the time will have some ideas increase both usability and usage of the site.
Because of the large number of people here, and the rapid growth, the only real way to effectively keep a suggestion box from just becoming a flood of nuisance emails, is to attach a forum/message board to the site-- with one myLot Admin as the top level manager, and maybe a half-dozen "senior" myLot members as board moderators. Some might say that having a forum to compete with what is already a "forum-style" community doesn't make sense... but your basic "message board utility" allows for the one thing we DON'T have in the greater community, which is "threading by topic." Also, the Admin can control topics headings-- and can limit it to "announcements," "suggestions," "FAQ" and such topics. Besides, there's a limit to the number of people who'll post on a board that is definitely NOT going to pay.

I think that's a cool idea to be honest.
MyLot must receive thousands of emails a day and sometimes it must seem like the list is ever growing. Not all those emails are going to be about ideas for the site. If there were a suggestion box, we could post all our ideas there and have someone at Admin read just those ones while someone else reads the others and so on.
Also, with a suggestion box, members could read through the suggestions and maybe respond to suggestions with their opinion too. That way, MyLot admin will get a feel for what the members really want and what they don't, just by checking the responses.

I like your idea,rugrat! we could have a suggestion box or a suggestion thread where all the ideas are submitted after analysis and it could be commented on by other Mylotians.Admin will have to check just one thread to know a popular idea or it's downsides.As long as people realise that it's only an idea to benefit all and don't take it personally ,if it's not implemented, it would be a cool addition.Thanks!:-)
