Rejoice chocoholics! Recent studies have discovered that certain types of formulated cocoa may be able to slow the rate of aging of the brain. And, chocolates may also be able to boost brain function. Certain flavanols have been shown to increase blood flow to the brain. These same flavanols have also been shown to benefit the heart. More studies will have to be undertaken in the form of larger clinical trials. It might be best to hold off on stuffing yourself with chocolates all day. But if you are a chocoholic, as I am, you know that it is a matter of time before they prove that our favorite food is the best health food of all. lol. If you are dieting please disregard this great news. I know that someday they will invent a low calorie, low suger chocolate. And then we can all enjoy eating as much chocolate as we want without all the guilt.

I read about this very recently, and think it's great news that chocolate is actually good for us. If I'm not eating chocolate in it's regular form, I'm drinking it mixed into a cappuccino, or drizzled over ice cream.

Interesting news. It also seems that chocolate is good for depression. Unfortunately, I cannot eat much chocolate, actually I eat it on a very casual basis because of my teeth.

Wow thats great news I love chocolates and I am not dieting, but what about teeth what do the clinic experts say what happens to teeth if chocolates are eaten in surplus, is it good for cavities if that issue also becomes clear by the clinicians then I would be able to enjoy my chocolates more often.

Depending on the type of teeth you have, more sweets could be harmful. You could always brush them more often during the day.

Hadn't heard it this way but do remember seeing on disovery an article about chocolate being good for your heart. And they stressed that the low sugar version with all natural ingredients was the preferred choice to get true benefits.

This is a good information especially to the chocolate lovers. But on the other hand not a good idea to those people who suffer weight problems (obesity). I do believe that some people, if not many, do misunderstood the chocs study. They believe that it really helps them become smarter and intelligent. WHich of course a misconception--in short not true. I believe that even if you intake hundreds of grams of chocolates a day without doing any brain stimulating activity, chocolates is a No help at all. This reminds me of my sister when she doing her Board exam review in Nursing. She became mad about the chocolates. When i found out i told her to take it easy otherwise she will have weight problems,if not diabetis, later. Now,based on my own readings and study about chocolates, the sugar and caffeine content are just most likely to help you stay alert and hyper. Why? simply because these content will rapid the blood circulation of your entire body. Thus, as mention above, will increase the blood flow to the brain. The blood carries oxygen which is essential to the functions of our organs. More blood flows to the brain means more oxygen for the brain to function actively and properly. This response is not to argue or against the topic posted, its just simply related. The bottom line is simply to make the reader think twice before eating chocolates.

Thanks for adding your ideas. I think it is best to not go overboard and eat a ton of chocolates. It is just that there is the possibility of certain ingredients in chocolate helping the brain. So that people who do eat chocolate will get some benefits. But I don't think chocolate should be used strictly as a brain enhancing food.

I have heard this too. But, we are not to depend on it solely. Besides, you know research, they are always changing this and that every few years. First it's good, then further tests say no. Buy the way, chocolate is deadly for cats and dogs. I'm glad we can have our full of it. Thanks for the great post. I am rating you a + for it as always. Have a great day sigma.

Well, I have always loved chocolate, so that is good to know. I know that there is a lot of research about chocolate, and that because it has endorphins, it is a "happy" food. And, there are other good characteristics that I have heard, but, being brain food, is a whole new concept...I am pleased, and glad that I can keep eating my chocolate...lol. Thanks for the good news.

Well, this news comes from early research. As with most other discoveries, it will probably be debated and tossed around for decades, just like drinking coffee...is it good or is it bad?

I certainly hopes this turns out to be completely true after they do more trials and comparisons. Why does something tasting so good have to have all those calories? lol.
