Have you ever travelled on a train?

It is surprising how many people have never had the opportunity to travel by train.
More and more train traffic has become mostly freight.
It is really too bad. I have traveled by train across most of Canada including the Rocky Mountains. It was truly spectacular.
It is certainly not the way to travel if you are in a hurry, but the scenery can be remarkable.

I haven't had a chance to take a train yet in my life but want to expereince it, Think it would be a wonderful way to enjoy site seeing and relaxing....I have although rode trains with my children in a amusiment park but that is hardle the same LOL....Riding a train is something I want to do and goin to try.....

You should do it soon. Unlike Europe, the train in North America is slowly disappearing.

In India, Train Travel is still the most frequently used mode of long distance travel as the flight rates are still not very affordable. So given this backdrop I have travelled umpteen number of times and have come to really enjoy them. The scenery that you mentioned is just one of the reason. The other reason why I love is that I get to meet a lot of people who themselves have nothing to do other than sit and talk. This allows me to meet a lot of people and build a network and connect to them.
So I love travelling by train, but you are right, the time is a major factor. So I generally take night trains so that I travel over the night and reach my destination in the morning so that I can wrap up my tasks in the day. If the journey is more than one night, then I prefer taking a flight to save on time.
