would you have an amnio done during pregnancy? if so under what circumstances? if not why? do you think amnio means that a parent would abort the fetus if there was a defect?

Nope no amnio for me. They have a high false positive rate they, increase the risk of miscarrage & besides I would not abort if something was wrong so why bother?

then you feel that amnio is only useful for deciding if a person wants to abort? i've actually had one done, tho i would never have an abortion....unless the babies survival was impossible. i wanted to know if there were any genetic anomolies tho. i wanted to be able to prepare for any possible medical interventions that may have been necessary. such as spina biffeda (sp?) it's good to know early to be able to intervene medically early on.

No I would not. The risk is too high for me.

For me the risks are too high, since I know I would not terminate the pregnancy based on the results. Knowing that something was different (don't want to use the word "wrong" here) with the baby before birth would only lead to more worrying for me. I know some parents want to know everything & be prepared for anything, and I respect their wishes. But for me, I would rather deal with what happens as it happens not spend months worrying about something I have no control over anyway.
