I have starting making homemade baby food for my little one, and although he's not ready for meats yet, I've been thinking about how you'd go about preparing them. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I made homemade baby food as well but I never worried about the meat until she had more teeth and could actually chew. Pureed meat is just gross, no matter how you do it. The doctor actually suggested against using jarred meats. They don't need the protein yet because of the formula that they are likely still drinking. A lot of times its about introducing them to the texture. I simply waited till she was about 8-9 months old and gave her small tender pieces of meat. I avoided pureeing it, it really is gross.

Our son was pretty young when we started him on meat. There is a small hand food grinder that you can buy in almost every baby section. We made sure there was some type of vegetable mixed in with the meat every time. Betty Crockers intstant potato buds is problably one of the best intstant potatoes you could mix with the food. Just try different types of meats with your child. You will know in a short time what kinds of meats your child can handle.

When my two were babies, I started them off with minced meat and watched that they only had small pieces as they are prone to choking. I also gave them pieces of polony type meats that they could chew on, but were soft enough to swallow without any problems. You can put cooked meat into the blender and mix it in with vegetables to start with then make the pieces bigger over time so they adjust to the it. Dont give too much meat to start with as they arent used to it and meat can cause the runs etc like any other newly introduced foods. And watch for choking.

cook the meat like you normally would with no extra sauce or spices on it. then grind it up, for the first couple of times i would suggest adding a little water in with it so it's not so thick and easier to swallow. i made all my baby foor as well and this worked great.

I had my daughter on meats between 4 & 6 months, i had a little book which included 365 recipes for babies & toddlers :) It gave a certain number of recipes for children of all different age brackets. Basically, it was a pork recipe - it said to boil the meat (so it stays tender), boil the veggies etc & then put it all in to a food processor & mix it until it's mush! Adding in water if it got too thick. Then it's just like all the other mushy baby food only it has real stuff in it & it much better for them. I hope that helps some!
