There is a cat that sprays nightly at the side of my house which is partly enclosed, I can't get rid of the smell or the cat! any tips, I've used tee tree oil with some water to spray the place down but he keeps returning, aaagh, He sprayed all over my partners shoes last night so they went via the bin. My female cat is neutered, would she be the reason why he comes around?

Well, I'm for hire, I'll come round and show that annoying moggie who is the boss, how about putting some pepper dust down, that usually keeps these awful cats away, so that your own cat can come out to play. I don't think your cat is the reason for attracting other cats, if she has been neutered.

I dont know why he comes around but I had a workmate who had wild cats living at the bottom of her garden causing problems. She got something called cinnamon spray from a pet shop and constantly sprayed the area and they went away.

I love cinnamon so that sounds great, I must look into that, I'm drying out some orange and lemon skins in the hotpress now so will throw them out tonight, It's also making the house smell nice and summery.

We've been having the same problem recently, too. We thinkit is our neightbor's cat that is spraying because some other stray's have been coming around the abandond house next door. I used bleach and water to wash the wall, and that got rid of the smell, but he still comes back and sprays again every few days. I think I'll try the citrus spray to drive them all off.

Can I suggest citrus oil, cats don't like the smell of citrus and orange or lemon peel can put them off. Spray the area with citrus and see if that helps.

There's some little herbal plnt that cats hate the smell of. Now that spring has arrived check around at like B and Q and Atlantic Home care or Woodies. Ask the nursery manager for the cat repellent plant (sorry, I can't think of the name). It might be worth a shot. Another thing you could do is figure out his point of entry and on a dry night, lay out a bunch of mousetraps and cover them with a thick wad of newspaper. When he lands on them he will get the shock of his life and maybe not be too eager to return in a hurry! Good luck!

Hi Design, Cat smell is so hard to get rid of. Just about the only thing that will truly erradicate the smell is an enzymatic cleaner. You'll often see it marketed as able to remove pet odors. The products use a natural enzyme that essentially eats away the odor. As for the cat continuing to come around ... you're probably right about it being a 'tom' looking to dance with your kitty. I'd try the orange/cinnamon suggestion. They smell great together. To really get rid of the cat, how about a dog? Or if you don't want a dog, how about tape recording dogs growling and barking, then let it play repeatedly at night for a few nights. Maybe you can put a stuffed dog, i.e. a toy dog in a nearby window when you play the dog barking sounds.
