Did Shane do the Right Thing?

Do you think Shane did the right thing in letting Shay go with his father and not try to fight for custody? I hate to say it, but I think she did. I have doubts that she would have won, especially since Shay's father had tried to find him and hadn't just abandoned him. Also, I think that she might have been right that a court battle could have resulted in Shay having to go into foster care, so of course she wanted to protect him from that. I wonder if she'll ever get to see Shay or if his character is gone for good. I like the storyline; having to take care of her brother and then give him up added a lot of depth to her character. Thoughts?

Unfortunately her snake of a father was right. Shane would not have won in court. Having Shay in her life gave her a responsibility to someone other than herself. She took that responsibility very seriously. It was sad to watch. Thank goodness she has Alice as her friend to help her through this. Only three more shows this year.....sigh

Yes, it was really sad. Alice is kind of the glue that holds everyone together, isn't she?

It's really amazing how much Alice is often helping people on the show. Even Phyllis' husband! That one came as a total shock to me.

Yes, she is my favorite character :-). I was surprised by her helping Phyllis' husband too.

I doubt she would have won too. It sucks but it was probably going to be either foster care or the dad. I kind of wished she got to keep him.

Shay was so good for Shane. Having to take care of him really gave her purpose. Remember when she saw the picture Shay had drawn of them? Just the look on her face was priceless. I was pretty upset when her "father" showed up for the little guy. He's such a you know what. I think Shane did the right thing only because I also don't believe she could have won in court. She may have but even the lesbian thing would have worked against her as sad as that is. Her father would have torn her apart, and if she had lost Shay would have went into the system. She didn't want that so she had to let him go. I hope that isn't the last we see of him, and I wonder how it's going to effect her in the future. PS: Alice is the greatest. I'm glad they had Shane lean on Alice's shoulder because they were so close in the past. I felt like the writers had kind of forgotten about their relationship, and it was great seeing them together again.

Yes, I really think that letting him go was about all she could have done. It would have been a nasty court battle and I really don't think she would have won, and Shay might have ended up in foster care. I do also agree that Shay was really good for Shane, and I hope the character at least comes and visits.

I agree. Shane couldn't risk a court battle.it was nice to see Shane bond with the other parents from Shay's class.I don't think we have seen the last of Shay or their father. It is too good of a storyline to drop.

Yes, I agree that it's a good storyline that shouldn't be completely dropped.

it's so hard to say what the right thing to do in this situation is. but i think shay knows that he is welcome back at any time if he needs it so her saying that to him was a good move. shane knows what it's like to grow up in foster care so i understand why she let him go with his dad. i'm just worried about how the dad is going to treat shay and if he will leave again so either way i don't think shay is in good hands in foster care or with his dad. i think he'd be better off with shane.

Yeah, Shay may well be back at some point if the dad decides he is tired of taking care of him. I think he'd be better off with Shane, but I doubt she would have won in a court battle.

she wouldn't have won, sadly the courts are biased against single lesibans, especially one with her history. if she was a bette or even tina, she would have stood a better chance, but she's too wild. i think there will be more story line with that soon.

Yes, she mentioned wanting to see Shay, so I was thinking that part of the story might come up again. But I think you're right as far as custody; being a single lesbian wouldn't have helped her, but someone like Bette or Tina would have had a better shot.
