Does anyone have Pet Insurance for their pets? If you do, are you happy with the paybacks for the Vet and RX services? My girl has seizures every so often and my Vet has put her on monthly medication. I am considering Pet Insurance to help with the costs of the visits every six weeks and the RX. Any info on this would be much appreciated.

Pet insurance generally will NOT cover any previously existing conditions. That means your seizure medication won't be covered.I tried using it years ago, and they wouldn't even cover vet visits or heart worm medication. It wasn't worth it to me. It would have only helped if my dogs got hit by a car, or discovered they had cancer or something. I stopped using it, it was a waste of my money.

Thank you. I do have the opportunity to get a refund and stop the insurance if it doesn't fit my needs. Thanks so much for the info.

You are right. They turned us down and told us to reapply in six months after my dog has been cured!!.Gee, that sounds just like human insurance. Just goes to show most insurance companies are not in it to assist anyone or anything, they're in it to make money!!

I had it several years ago, and I didn't really think it was worth it-for me anyway. Plus, they may have changed over the years. Read the fine print though, a lot of them won't cover "normal diseases" for certain breeds. Like how German Shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia, they won't cover anything regarding that if the dog gets it. Seizures are common in a lot of dogs, so make sure before you start paying out on it.

OH yes, forgot about the pre existing condition lol. That may be an issue as well. I remember, I got a yearly "allowance" of 35.00 for shots, heartworm meds, general care, etc. I know the heartworm meds alone costs that much. Just wasn't worth the money IMO.

I don't have pet insurance. The last time I checked into it it was way out of my price range. It wouldn't have saved me any money. That being said though none of my pets needed treatments and doctor's visits every month either so it may be worth it for you. I think a lot depends on the pet and the insurance.

That is what I currently do, but this is something that is going to require visits every 6-8 weeks and daily medication. The total of which will be over $1500.00 a year. The insurance apparently will pay most of that cost, and the insurance itself will cost me $360.00 a year. Either way, she is going to be given the care that she needs.
