Why is it always "my turn" to wash up? Domestic chores love 'em or hate 'em

Domestic bliss - Why is it always my turn to wash up
March 8, 2007 3:37pm CST
His lordship has almost recovered from his bout of "man flu" to the degree that he is up and about and using every plate, dish, cup, mug, knife, fork, spoon and pan in the house. "I made you supper dear" he said, "Lovely" I said, "I think it's your turn to wash up tonight" he said Erm, no, I don't think I'd better print here what I said - LOL However, after doing all the washing up and cleaning the kitchen, I thought I would ask the question here, is it always "your turn" to wash up? - LOL

At my house one washes and one dries and puts away. It's only fair. i don't think anyone should have to clean up anyone else's mess unless of course there's a situation where one person doesn't work and is a stay at home mum. Then it is acceptable for her to do all the dishes. But it is nice to have help sometimes.

It's always nice to have the help, even nicer when they clear up after themselves instead :-)

It is always my turn to do the dishes. Although, I refuse to do my stepson's dishes. He is 20 and has 2 functional hands. My husband, I don't mind so much doing his dishes. But sometimes, I am just so sick of him that I won't do his either. It just isn't fair. No matter who makes the dinner, I have to wash the pots and such. He tells me to leave them and he will do them later. He means in a day or two. That just isn't acceptable to me.

I know exactly what you mean hun, these days I seem to spend most of my time cleaning up after other people. Not it isn't fair

I know exactly what you are talking about. I am the only female of a house hold of 4. For some reason, they think house work is not for them. I work from 7am to 7pm at night. When I come home and see a sink full of dirty dishes, I go off. So I decided to hire my youngest son to be my house keeper. He loved the idea. I would leave him a list of things to do for that day. Well today when I come home I looked at his list. It was all checked off including "Clean the kitchen" I looked at my kitchen sink and it had some dirty dishes in it. I asked " why did you check off that you cleaned the kitchen and there are dirty dishes in the sink?" Well his comment was " I cleaned the kitchen. You did not have wash the dishes on the list" dah

When my dear heart was employed I did the cooking and washing up every night. Now that he is retired he does all the cooking and has announced that its only fair if he cooks I should do the washing up. Now why didn't I think of that!

Because I stay home with my 9 month old and my hubby goes out and works I guess it is just assumed that I will do the dishes. Well, either that or he knows I will do them because I'm a neat freak, but once in a while he'll surprise me and get off his duff and do them!

Aw, it's lovely when they do surprise you isn't it. I don't mind some of the time but it feels like it's always my turn - lol

There's no argument here. Yes, it is always my turn to wash up. Right now, I have to go into the kitchen and wash the plaste and cup and saucer that my husband left in the sink after his dinner (I had mine earlier). To-morrow morning I will get up and wash his breakfast dishes which he will leave lying in the sink. He tells me I have a dishwasher, but everything would be gone smelly if I was waiting to fill it. I just can't win. If you get a solution to this please email me with it as fast as possible...lol.

It should be a partnership between two people. Also, you should always cleanup after yourself. Unless of course,if you go out to eat, then let the waitstaff do it.

My husband always does the dishes at our house. I'm pretty lucky. He runs the dishwasher almost every day, though. Our 13 month old sure uses a lot of dishes with all his snacks and meals, though. When we had a counter top dishwasher I did dishes more. I'm supposed to avoid bending over when I can while I wait to have back surgery, though. So that's why my husband does dishes and laundry. He figures I do enough bending and scooping taking care of the baby.
