Music on movies and television

Are there specific songs that you will always automatically relate to a movie or television show that you encountered them on? For example: I can't hear "Goodbye To You" without thinking of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was part of an episode right after a breakup between two of the main characters, and it's always made me think of that specific love story. Also, there are a couple of songs I always associate with Highlander: "Dust in the Wind" and "Who Wants To Live Forever?" Did anyone notice that every single time someone died (and someone died in almost every episode) they played one of these two songs? Here's one from a movie: "Low Rider" will always make me think of Gone in Sixty Seconds, even though I know I've heard it in tons of movies before that. Anyone else have any songs they associate with specific tv shows or movies?

I haven't watched much TV for years and do not go to the movies, but a couple of songs remind me of movies from way back. When I hear "Somewhere My Love" I think of fields of golden flowers in Doctor Zhivago. "As Time Goes By" brings memories of Humph and of course any of the "Sound of Music" songs bring memories.

The one that always sticks with me that I wanted to contribute (i haven't seen it yet but if it's been mentioned then my bad) is Paula Cole's "I Don't Wanna Wait" for Dawson's Creek. Now I have songs like "California" by Phantom Planet (The O.C.) or "I'll Be There for You" by the Rembrants (Friends) that tie-in for me. I did like that a lot of you mentioned "Who Are You" by the Who cause CSI is one of my favorite shows.

For me, whenever I hear "Wind Beneath my Wings", I think " the Bette Midler & Barbara Hershey starrer "Beaches". And who couldn't think of "Titanic" when you hear "My Heart Will Go On"?...those are the songs I can think of right now right off the bat.

I suppose it's because these songs are really powerful and they are really perfect for the movies they were used in. I remember seeing on TV that James Cameron didn't want to have any song for "Titanic" but then agreed to have "My Heart Will Go On" after giving it some thought.

Ah yes, the old classic "Beaches". I'm with you on that one. And "My Heart Will Go On" is a good one. I think everyone relates that one to the same place.

I'm with you on 'Dust In The Wind' and 'Who Wants To Live Forever'. And Stand By Me, too, because of the last episode when Joe's singing it. Even though I used to always associate it with the movie of the same name, now it's Highlander. Ivy's 'Worry About You' and 'Tainted Love' are forever linked to Kingdom Hospital for me. "Full of Grace' by Sarah Maclaughlin is linked to Due South. I know there are so many others, but I can't think of them right now. I should probably be asleep, but I had too much caffeine!

Oh, I forgot "Stand By Me". I think of Highlander when I hear that now too. That's where I heard "Full of Grace" I bet! I keep thinking I heard it on a TV show, and I couldn't remember which. I loved Due South, so I bet that was it. *laughs* I've been known to be on mylot when I should be asleep too, due to both my caffeine addiction and my mylot addiction. =p

Well I knew that they always played "Who Wants To Live Forever" since it was a song from the movies as well but I don't remember hearing "Dust in the Wind". Oh well it happens :) The song from Charmed, which I'm blanking on the theme song's name, that was also in the Craft I associate with Charmed not with The Craft at all. I know there are others because I'll hear a song and think of a movie but right now I'm blanking.

'Dust In the Wind' was played for every Tessa flashback and for her montage, and I think it was played when Richie bid the show farewell as well.

Thanks for your response! Oh, so it was the Tessa flashbacks! I couldn't think of when they played it after I said it, but I knew I'd heard it on there a lot. Just means I need to finish my Highlander collection so I can watch them all. Man, I loved that show. =p

Thanks for your response! That song reminds me of The Wedding Singer too. It's amazing too because I had heard it before I saw the movie, but it still links up that way in my head now.

I can't hear the Bill Haley and the Comets tune 'Rock Around the Clock' without thinking of the TV show 'Happy Days.' But perhaps my favorite is The Beatles, 'Get By With A Little Help From My Friends' that was used by the TV show 'The Wonder Years.' I loved that song as well as that show! I have included the lyrics below!!! by the Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) What would you think if I sang out of tune, Would you stand up and walk out on me ? Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song And I'll try not to sing out of key. Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends What do I do when my love is away (Does it worry you to be alone ?) How do I feel by the end of the day, (Are you sad because you're on your own ?) No, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends Do you need anybody I need somebody to love Could it be anybody I want somebody to love. Would you believe in a love at first sight Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time What do you see when you turn out the light I can't tell you but I know it's mine, Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends Do you need anybody I just need someone to love Could it be anybody I want somebody to love. Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends with a little help from my friends.

Oh the Wonder Years! What a lovely example! Makes me feel like a kid again to think about it. Thanks for responding! It's good to know I'm not the only one whose mind works this way.

The first song that comes to mind is "Old Time Rock and Roll"reminds me of Tom Cruise in Risky Business. And then there is "Til I Hear It From You" and "This Is The Day" from Empire Records.M&M's are using "This Is The Day" for their comericals and every time I hear it I think of Empire Records.Anytime I hear the Bee Gee's it takes me back to Saturday Night Fever. And "Aint Too Proud To Beg" reminds me of The Big Chill. With T.V. Its all the classic themes like Dallas, Dynasty, Barney Miller, Cagney and Lacey, and Hill Street Blues. And Last but not least, Taxi. You hear their themes and you are ready to see the show.

"A little less conversation" remainds me Ocean's eleven...my favourite movie..so..in this moment i don't remind anything else..but probably a lot of songs remind us a movie we had seen in the past. And also the movie remind us a particular moment of our lives..

"This Used To Be My Playground" by Madonna always reminds me of "A League of Their Own". "Bad To the Bone" by George Thorogood reminds me of the movie "Parenthood" with that bratty little red haired kid...lol. Dona :-)

Everytime I hear Nickelback's "Savin Me" I think of Battlestar Galactica. I've been big time into Galactica lately and this song always comes to mind.
