Why does personal beliefs even have to be in the spotlight during presidential elections? Abortion, gay marriage, and all other personal beliefs have no place in presidential campaigns!!! Sure, we may need laws, but local laws. We all have our own personal beliefs.. but really, does the running of our country have anything to do with whether Billy wants to marry Bob??? Get real!!

Here here. I am pro-choice. I support women's rights but I would not tell a woman to have an abortion. That is her personal decision. If a woman has health problems and learns from her mistake, I could understand why she would contemplate abortion. If the woman doesn't have any financial or emotional support from her family and friends, I would understand why she could contemplate it. I wouldn't use abortion as a birth control method because it leads to health problems and the woman can end up becoming sterile in the future.

Which is kinda ironic considering MOST of abortions are for birth control reasons...

Because those are the types of issues that will get people up off their butts and out to the polls. These are things that people believe in strongly - one way or the other. Politicians use these "triggers" to get people who ordinarily wouldn't care who was in office to take a stand, donate campaign funds, and "get the vote out".

I have to dissagree with that. Those same triggers make alot of people disgusted with politics altogether and therefore won't bother to vote. It's a no win situation and has no place in the presidential campaigns. Thank you so much for your response.. I find it an interesting topic.

The religious right wing republicans do not see those issues are a personal choice. They want to control the country based on what *they* think is "right". Little do they know that it is the same thing as Nazi fascism.

That is the point exactly... religion is on both sides, and there are democrats who do not believe in abortion. So why does it have to be a right wing issue?
