I'd like to connect wiqth other giqant breed dog lovers such as greqat danes and mastiffs. I love these breeds but I would like to exchange ideas about improving their health and longevity since these beautiful beasts tend to have such short lives. I love my Dane, I want to have her around forever!

I've got a deerhound. she's gorgeous. one of the main things is to make sure they aren't too tough on their bowns when they're still growing. aside from that, make sure you give them good, healthy food with no nasty chemicals in it.

Siounds like a beautiful creature. Yes we spend a lot of money on high quality dog food that is low in protein which is supposedly better for growing Danes. It is called Natural Balance and uses human grade ingredients.

I don't think I can help much. We got a mastiff puppy a few years ago and was told that his dad was most likely a german shepherd, because of his look. Nope, dad turned out to be a beagle! Our dog is about 65 pounds of pure muscle and has the temperment of the mastiff, but he stands 14 inches high and has 6 inch legs! His paws are as big as the palm of my hand. His head is about 3x the size head you'd expect on a body his size. When he wags his tail, his whole body shakes! He's really adorable though. I hope he is able to live a bit longer than most mastiffs because of his smaller size.

I don't have a mastiff or a dane though I love mastiffs. I have a Caucasian Ovcharka from a rescue program. The BIG problem with them is that they are over protective. What ever animal or person these dogs attach themselves to literally has a body guard that would sacrifice its life for you. The were guard dogs in the Russian Army and are being bred here now as well. The problem is that they grow very large and just like other large breeds get "dumped" because of their size. Ours is a perfect indoor and outdoor dog. But I have had to post several beware of dogs signs all along my drive way Proper nutrition pays a key role in the life span of the larger breeds of dogs. As well as exercise.
