Would you agree that childrens these days are addicted to TV. These have developed several problems with the childrens. To name some, watching TV at a very close range. Resulting in childrens wearing glasses at a very young age. School lessons, home-works are been negelected. Your views and opinions and corrective measures, if any, please

I completely agree. In our home, we allow basically no television until at least 2 years of age, and then it is strictly limited. We used to have a room mate with a 4 year old who refused to potty train because he was afraid to leave the TV since he'd miss something. That is very sad to me, and says something about the parenting the child is reciving. I think television abuse starts way too early. Most parents use it as a method of keeping their children entertained so that they don't have to do it themselves, so really, most parents have no one to blame but themselves when their children are overweight because they spend more time on the couch than outside playing.

A very true experience! Your respond should be read by parents. You do have a good system of not allowing your kids to watch TV until 2 and then it is controlled viewing. The other point that you mentioned was on weight. Thanks Moonprysm

Although tv watching correlates with wearing glasses to a certain extent, remember poor eye sight is a recessive gene, and you are born with it in most cases. I did not grow up with tv, at least my primary years. I was born in the 1950's when tv was just coming out. My son watched a lot of tv and he has perfect vision. He is 30 years old and has never had to wear glasses. I also feel that video games and computer have weakened the eye sight of many people as well.

Yes I do agree , My sons are lucky enough to live in houses that are in a good safe area so that makes it safe for their children to go outside and play , I love to see this as it keeps them fit and healthy , my youngest granddaughter who is 12 is also in the school football team and is not afraid to get dirty which again is unusual in this day and age , xx

Your are indeed very lucky to have a very good and a friendly neighbourhood, which many may not have. I guess this gives you the confidence to send your childerns out and let them play games. By doing so, you have drawn them away from the TV. Playing games outside is very good as it improve them in many ways health, Having more fresh air, being rugged and etc. Your granddaughter is keeping well with all the games like football. Not to worry, I have two grand niece who are twins and aged 19 and they too are invloved in soccur. Well it is better then be glued infront of the TV

I agree that kids do watch way too much television. You have to get their eyes unglues from the screen when you go to talk to them about something. they are also addicted to electronic games that hook up to the television also. They get so involved in messing with the remotes that go tot the games to operate it. I think kids these days could sit there and watch television and play games 24/7 these days. They do not even want to go outside and play any more. They are complete couch potatoes. It is very hard on their eyes. It may not affect them now but it will sometime later. I agree that their school work does get neglected because they just cannot wait to grab a remote and some food when they get out of the bed.

Yes I encountered problems when my kids were young. Especially during exam period. Finally, I can with an idea. I disconneted the TV and one was to watch it , including my wife & me, until the exams are over. It worked for me.

This is a very good point! My children do not get to watch tv during the week until all study/homework is done and even then I limit it to 1 hr!

Well maummymo, you have taken off on the right foot. Congrats and well done. Without TV how do you channel their energy? Are your kids involved in other activities. Will you increase the 1 hour viewing if there are some good program or if they plead for extra time.

I agree. And it has affected even their studies. Instead of spending precious time studying or doing home works, their gazes are glued to the TV screen.

I definitely agree with you that children are addicted to watching tv and it is unhealthy for them to watch too much. I think one hour a day is okay but not much more than that. It is not good for their eyesight but also there are a lot of shows that are inappropriate for children to be watching. Some shows would have a negative impact on children. I think it is better that we get our children active in sports or take them to the park or play board games with them or something more constructive.
