My dog gets fleas and I usually wash him with a flea shampoo from the pet shop but It smells quite harsh and I'm thinking about using more natural shampoos that will actually work. Is there a home-made shampoo that anyone's used on their dog that is effective?

Hi Flea control is always a big concern but i do have some bad news anything that is sold over the counter by pet shops/super markets and any other store is basically rubbish. Over the counter goods such as shampoos and cheap spot ons contain just a bunch of chemicals and nothing else. They might repell fleas but they will never get rid of them. Basically pet shops and super markets are not licensed to sell medicated products. Which is a problem because its the medicine in the flea shampoo and spot ons that get rid of fleas effectively I reccomend going to your local vets and buying spot ons from the vet. The vet will need to see your dog (usually this costs nothing) and he/she will prescribe you the best treatment for your dog. Where it might sound expensive it isn't usually flea treatments come in a box of 3/4 which means you have 3-4 months worth of treatment for approximately £15. Its a one minute job, you only have to repeat the treatment once a month and you get the guarentee that your pooch will be flea free because the vet is giving you a product that actually works. I also reccomend working as well where some treatments it is just one tablet every 3 months. Brands you won't see in pet shops include Frontline (flea and tick treatment that even treats your home) Milbimax (wormer) Drontel (wormer) Advantage (Flea treatment) Strong hold (flea treatment) I reccomend popping to your local vets and asking about effective flea management they have loads of leaflets and some surgeries even offer free flea clinics.

Hi, please try this at home. Take enough ginger - garli paste and mix it with lime, vinegar and coconut oil. You can mix it with a natural oil if you do not have coconut oil and leave your cat/dog/any other pet for about 2 hours after applying the paste on them. After washing them well, comb the fur thoroughly and then dry them under the hot sun. Tgis will drive flees away and would leave a good smell inside their surroundings too.. All the best and hope this helps!

Wool Wash - No soap, detergents and perfumes. Also incorporate Garlic into his food. (natural repellant).
