It is almost impossible to open an account if you are not working. The bank accounts are in my hubby's name. If anything were to happen, I would have no money. I can't open an account because I have no acceptable photo id in this country in my married name. I have no bills that have my name on them. Should a hubby open an account for them? If the wife does not work, then I think he should.

I dont know which country you belong to. But I think a marriage certificate is enough to add your name to your husband's account and make it a Joint Account.

If you don't trust your wife don't make an account. It is better to trust your wife, it makes sense. Every couple has a savings in their own. Example the appliances they bought or car, it is their savings.

I think a woman can open her own bank account. IF the husband did it it's almost like he is controlling her and the money.

It would be an excellent idea if the husband opened up a separate account for the wife but sometimes it is better to have a joint account in case of an emergency.

It is not necessary to open a separate account for the wife. A joint account will solve the problem as long as the husband is not a squanderer. If he is not one inclined to save for emergency, then also what is point in just opening an account for the wife. I think a saving in the bank with a joint account is the best for the security of either person.
