I dont have a dog, but I have 4 cats (and 4 goldfish) but I think what goes up about the food for cats does the same for food for dogs. If you buy not premium food but just some food at the grocery store there is too much salt in it. And the quality of the products being used in it, are less. But the main problem is the salt it contains. The more salt there is in the food it might taste good for the dogs and cats, but it will raise their bloodpressure and that can cause kidney problems when the are older. I always buy food at the petshop for our cats. Not the grocery stuff. Although I tried once a can of very very cheap catfood at a discountstore, it was about E 0.20, and they loved it. But thats too salty.
Take good care of the health of your pets!

you can't really rely on price as a guideline though.
for example, I will never ever feed Pedigree to any dog of mine, as I think what's in it is appalling.
there's a cheap tinned dog food called Chappie, which is much better quality than Pedigree. read the ingredients, not the adverts.

a lot of the dog foods that are portrayed as being high quality contain some very nasty chemicals that I wouldn't feed my dogs if you paid me to.
I give my Dogs Burns dog food, which is very natural and contains no nasty chemicals. since they've been eating it, their poos have been healthier and their coats are very very shiny

I haven't heard of that brand of dog food either!
We give our shihtzu Katie Purina Dog Chow!
The vet said it's working great and she is really healthy when she got her shots 2 weeks ago.

I get a natural brand of dog food for my dog which would be considered 'premium'. I have tried the cheap stuff but I feel that my dog digests the premium stuff better and she doesn't have yucky gas like she did with the cheap stuff.

Good Morning!
I honestly don't know if there is a difference in "premium" dog food or not, but we buy our dog food from the local co-op. We get him a big bag of their store brand and he loves it! He is very healthy and gets a good checkup at the vet every year.
Have a great day!

I think that there is a difference. Some of the cheaper foods are made with less than quality ingredients. Although, you can read the contents and compare. I have found that some dog foods are made by the same company, just under different names and the prices are dramatically different.
