underage driving

Is this happening in your town. It seems that many parents are teaching their kids to drive before they are old enough to get their learners permits in our town. They are taking the kids out and having them drive so they can practice. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this. The kids here can't get their permit until they are 16, so once my son turns 16 I will teach him to drive. Right?

Hi, I know this is an old discussion but thought I would respond anyways. This does happen...and it happens in my own house! My wife insists on teaching my daughter to drive even though my daughter is only 14. She takes her to abandoned lots in order to practice. This upsets me as I do not think it is right and it just basically teaches my daughter that she does not have to follow any rules. I think 16 is set as the age for a reason. If I had my way I would even raise that age! cheers,

I know, it has started to happen in my house also. My husband has let my 15 yr old drive down our street. I wouldn't mind if it was in a parking lot where there were no other cars or people. I am very uncomfortable with him driving on the street. Even though it is just for a few short miles, anything could happen.

Underage driving definitely does happen in my state as well as probably other states. I have heard quite a bit on the news about underage drivers getting into accidents. Kids can not get permits or licenses here either til they are 16 either so that is when the parents should be going with them and learning how to drive, preferably starting off in neighborhoods.

Here where we live you have to be 16 to get a permit and you have to take drivers training either in school or privately to get a lisence. Then for the first year you have to be off the road before dark. Sometimes I think that the kids need to be older to get their lisence. I have picked up my grandson from school and those kids drive like crazy, pulling out in front of people, racking to the drive way to get out first. The school needs to put a traffic cop out there before someone gets killed but they won't.

You are completely right. I didn't let my daughters drive until they got their permits. The town I live in the parents don't teach their kids they just hand them the keys. We have 12 year olds driving around town without a parent and with their friends in the car. Our town cop is such a panzy that he won't do anything about it. Someday one of these kids are going to cause a really bad accident and their parents are going to pay big for it. I just wish some of these parents would grow up and think before they let their kids do something that they shouldn't be doing in the first place.
