Why is it called 'football' when the ball is carried for most of the time?

Very spectacular observation, i would say. Yes truly nowadays the ball is more in the hands either of the ref or of the players , clean football is a very rare thing nowadays. dont know when again we will see real Football, not Handball.

Hmm.. This is about American football in which the ball is mostly carried like in Rubgy. I think you are thinking about soccer (which is called football in the non - American world).

Interesting question. I never really thought about it before. Maybe we just wanted to be different or something. Who knows? I do know that I've been a Dallas Cowboy fan since I was five and have actually developed an interest in other teams as well because I enjoy watching the sport. I used to play with the boys when I was a kid and always played quarter back because they knew I was so small I could run the ball down the field between their legs. It was a lot of fun and the boys thought it was funny that a little girl liked football. I liked basketball, too, but since I was fairly small, my backyard was as far as I could go.

That's great! Of course the game here which is similar is rugby, and that is also played by women though it's a tough game, more so than American football I think because the players do not wear all that padding. Injuries are not uncommon.

I think its called so because ball is kicked too along with carrying.

Same as in Rugby though.

Isn't that the darnedest thing? I guess because you start the game by kicking it & when you have to turn over the ball you kick it again. Then there are those field goals.
