Quality of Movies

Does anyone else think that the quality of movies today is seriously lacking? It seems that as technology has improved to the point where nothing is impossible on the big screen the story lines and the special effects have really gotten horrible! I love a movie that can draw me in and keep me on the edge of my seat till the very end. Rarely do I find a newly released movie that I truly enjoy. Lately, the story lines are so poor, no imagination, I already have the ending figured out, the script is lame, and the special effects are worse then the original King Kong. Anybody else disappoined in the quality of the movies being released lately?

I don't like more recent movies. It's all about who removes what and where. I like movies that have REAL people and places. Preferrably dressed from beginning to end, if you know what I mean. I miss movies that aren't all CGI, and the plots of movies nowadays has definatly gone down hill. Childrens movies are getting on the risky side as well. Some of the references have suprised me. What happened to movies with substance? Seems like they are out the window along with any kind of morals.

Yes...but here's the problem: It sells. Men control a lot of things, including the movie industry. God forbid they have a movie where they can't oggle some woman. (if you can even call them woman....I can think of soemthing else) When an actresses career depends on what she is willing to remove, she is not an actress at all. And when guys complain about having to see a man do the same thing, it bugs me. Have you seen Babel, with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchet? I heard it's pretty graphic, and it won for best movie. Glad to see there is someone else on the planet who agrees that things have gotten out of conrtol.

If you depend on Hollywood, you're mostly right. I watch a lot of independent and foreign films. There are plenty of creative film makers, but you have to hunt down a lot of them because they aren't well known in America.

I've always kinda steered away from indies and foreign films, but I don't see as how I'd have anything to lose at this point. ;)

Though i feel F/X are considerably better than they were yrs ago which in a lot of ways has made many movies better IMO and expanded the range of where one can go with movies and so on...My issue with movies these days is that other than maybe one or two really great flicks that come out in a yr (such as Crash, Monster, Hotel Rwanda, Constant Gardener and Hard Candy to name a few) its pretty much if you've seen one movie in any given genre, you've pretty much seen them all in that same genre which so sucks...

I have seen very bad movies with terrible scripts from many years ago too...I don't think it's just a current phenomenon. I have seen some wonderful movies recently that don't rely on special effects but there are also, as you say, terrible ones too.

I think many new movies are lacking in the story line area. It seems like movie makers concentrate so much on special effects that they forget about the story completely. I like special effects but I would like them to be part of the story, not the whole story. I get disappointed when someone tells me about a movie and the first thing out of their mouth is "The special effects were awesome!" OK but what about the characters? The storyline? What's it about?

lol, don't even get me started on special effects...nothing irks me more then for it to be blatantly obvious that they're using a bluescreen.
