I like gardening, but sometimes after hours of gardening I feel so tired. Last year I was very busy and my gardening was neglected. I am ready to start new season with “secret garden” Is gardening beneficial for your health?

Can I visit your garden? I don't have my own garden but I think that gardening is very healthy. Spring and summer gardening can be a great whole body workout to shed extra winter weght.

Absolutely! I love my garden. It's no secret that my Hubby was complaining about my constant care of my plants versus my lacking care for his welfare- IE: doing his chores, cleaning house, doing the dishes, cooking, bla bla bla. None of my chores are more inviting and enjoyable than caring for my plants. When I go outside I get fresh air, sun, and feel a sense of being at peace with the world. Yes, little problems pop up like that outbreak of mold or aphids, but I enjoy coming to the rescue and offing the offenders. Once the garden begins producing, I feel as though I've gained something out of the fruits of my labor. It makes me feel good to eat the first string bean, or make my first cherry tomato salad. Not that Hubby will eat them - noooo...he's not a veggie-king of guy. Seeing lovely flowers outside your window and smelling their fragrance throughout you house is splendid, too. No matter how tired I get deadheading my petunias, or combating mold spore, I have the satisfaction that I created something that will give back to me. I also go into what I'd call a "plant caretaker trance": nothing else bothers me, I rarely think too hard, and I can feel my blood pressure dropping by the second. It's a great feeling!

I believe gardening is good for your physical and mental health as long as you enjoy it. You will feel very stiff after the first few hours of work, so don't plan to overdo it at first, and a good hot bath is usually a good remedy for those aching muscles. Enjoy your work and you'll enjoy your results.

of course, fresh gardening is the best, if you can get the bugs out without chemical is the best, my mom plants tons of veggie in the back of the house, so each year we got fresh veggies it is awesome

I love working out in my yard and garden. I'm tired and sore after a full day of yardwork but to me, it's a good feeling. Tells me that I will sleep real good that night. A full day of gardening is wonderful for your health overall. Your working all of the major muscle groups without leaving home. Besides, the fresh air does everybody a world of good.

roses - Yellow roses in my front garden
I find gardening very soothing, there is something very special about getting down there with your hands in the cool soil. I find it very spiritual. My back aches terribley, so I try not to over do it. But I still love it. I spend 1 day a week in the garden.

I would say that it's certainly beneficial to my health. I can't get out very much to exercise due to health problems so the only little bit of exercise I get is when I go out into the garden. I love planting new seeds and shrubs and watching them grow and I can sit and relax in the sun whenever I feel tired. I think it is the best place to get exercise, particularly as we get older.

I think gardening is beneficial to me because it reduces my stress, clears my mind, and a job gets done. Reaching, stretching, bending all promote to fitness. I've always considered it a workout. Do tell, what is a "secret garden"?

secret garden - picture of secret garden
"A beautiful blossom is a fleeting thing It stays for a moment and then takes wing: With special rays we catch it ere flight So all may enjoy the beautiful sight."The secret garden is small or big place covered with gates, trees and flowers.......

Wow Polachicago, compliments for your garden full of plants, vegetables and fruits.... Unfortunately I have only a little garden with a few plants.... I'd like gardening, it must be a great satisfaction to you when you harvest the fruits of your labour. I know it is very hard, and I can image how you can be tired after an hard day of work, but I'd like so much to have a little piece of earth to garden.... So.... gardening is beneficial for health and.... taste...

I would think that any physical exercise would contribute to your health. Being tired is a sign that you probably had quite a bit of exercise and it's probably good to relieve stress also.

oh I don't know if somebody has ever made research about gardening and health but sure it is high recommended to keep busy and do whatever to use our time in a good and enjoyable way...I mean..we use less that 10% of our mind and we neurologist strongly recommend to keep mind healthy and to exercise it...hobbies are a good gym for our mind and gardening combines both being outside and doing something interesting and therefore we recommend it as a good and healthy activity...the rule is do what you like doing, do something that keeps you healthy and enjoy yourself..this is a good way of living and helps aging in the better way!!!

I've heard that it can be good for you. It can be both relaxing and stimulating mentally, and of course you have the satisfaction of seeing something that you planted andcared for grow up and produce flowers or vegetables.

I used to like doing a little pottering in the garden .. but I;ve never been able to do all the harder jobs .. If I had my way I'd have astroturf over the whole garden and just a few pots .. it'd be great .. always green and just needs a sweep now and then .. but it'd cost £££'s thousands to do even a smallish garden .. still in the long run it would be cheaper than buying all the lawn mowers, fertilisers, weedkillers etc etc ..

I would say it is. It's great exercise and very rewarding. I love getting my hands dirty in the garden. It's a good way to de-stress, keep your mind off things that are bothering you. Sometimes being in the garden helps me think. I like to listen to the birds as I am weeding.
