Getting words confused

I just got off the phone with my Grandpa, I adore him, but I get so aggravated when I speak with him! Ever since I can remember he has misused words. Like instead of going to the pharmacy to get a prescription he says subscription, he went to the eye doctor and has problems with his retinas but called it his rectum. LOL The list goes on and on. I don't know if I should correct him when he does these things or not, and I kinda wonder if he's not doing it to be funny. Have you ever had someone who does this every conversation you have with them? How do you handle it?

everyone has the possibility misuse and mispronounce a word. in our day to day life we have to meet and talk to many people that during conversations we could not find the exact word to use thus resort to words nearer to what we want to say. in other people, maybe that's how they hear others utter it. i have an office mate that has a problem of pronounciation so everytime i hear him talk i always comment on him and teaches him the correct pronounciation that at times it eventually become a learning experience to others joined in the conversation. if i was the one committed i accept it and even ask helpif i am doubtful of meaning and pronounciation.

I think you're grandfather is a real humorous type of person. You just have to laugh it all out. In life we really need humor, right? I guess your grandfather has reached his age gracefully because of being funny all the time. Inherit that quality from your grandfather and you'll live longer just the same.

My father in law does that all the time and I just do a silent chuckle when it happens. I think it's funny and cute. I think he does the "subscription" for "prescription" too. He also says "vegables" instead of vegetables, which is more of a misprononciation than a wrong word. I wouldn't try to correct him, I'd just enjoy the humor in it!

That is not intentional but a curse due to mocking people inthe past birth. For every action you do you pay back in the same coin .So when you mock people and hurt their sentiments the resulting curse works in nthis way in which wrong words come tumbling out of your mouth though you do not want to put it that way.

Ohh haha that's sooo cute, i thought that was hilarious, I've known people to miss use words kind of similar to that but if their old i just leave it be, most of the time. Stu's mom is 80 and when she does mis use a word, i correct her, and i don't know why i do but but i do, but it's just too funny the words your grandpa uses. cute, thanks for the laugh!!!

Haha! Yeah, I've heard people mix up words like that before. I usually just let it go and don't say anything, but since it's someone you know, maybe politely say "Did you mean to say..." I think that would be a nice way of putting it if it really bothers you. I have corrected a few people before, but I make sure to do it politely so that they don't feel offended.

Oh my gosh, that's actually pretty cute. I guess maybe you could correct him once in a while if it's really a big deal but I don't think I would do it all the time.

Yes, my grandmother does the same thing, and I have often learned that it is better to accept the words she gives me than to challenege them. Ohhhh, that was not pretty!

Some times my boyfriend mixes words up and I think it's cute. I used to always correct him but now I hardly bother.

LOL! I have the same experience with my father. It is hilarious! I just correct my dad, we laugh about it and we move on. There is really nothing you can do! My grandfather was the same way. My favorite of my dad's was that I told him about a funny nickname. He said he was going to make it his monogram. What he really meant to say was he was going to make it his moniker. We still laugh about that to this day. He may just very well be doing it to be funny!
