do you guys believe the thing about 13th floor? i mean, i know about other things on 13, but i'm still confused about the 13th floor. most buildings (if not all) don't have 13th floor, and i don't understand how they could remove a floor and move on to the next. do you believe this "theory"?

They still have the 13th floor. However, it is not being used as other floors are. This is where they stock things. You can imagine now that there is a need for a stock room for big buildings to house some equipment units. They have to do this because, most persons do not want to occupy any room on the 13th floor for some superstitious beliefs, that is true.

that's a good idea. most people won't occupy a room on the 13th floor. i wonder how much loss the company will have then. better to make that floor useful and have it as their stockroom. good point.

they make the whole 13th floor a stock room? hmmm.. i didn't know about that. i thought they just leave the whole floor empty since no one wants to be there. i wonder how a superstitious stockman or guard feels if they're assigned there? c',)

well, its better to make it a stock room rather than make the whole floor useless.

yep. most buildings don't have the 13th floor labeled as 13th... they label it with 14th. i don't know why. maybe it's because of feng su studies. i think it's unlucky or something. well, it's better to be cautious and take away the 13th floor than suffer from bad luck, right?

right. but labeling the 13th floor as 14th still doesn't change the fact that it is still the 13th floor. i wonder why feng sui sees it that way.

13 doesn't bother me. my birthday is on the 13th, 13 is the name of my favourite album and there's 13 lunar months in the solar year. so to me it's a good number.

not at all. and whatever you call it, the 14th floor would still be the 13th floor anyway. it's only a number. it can't hurt anyone

It is true that the 13th has superstitious foundations. However, many are avoiding it. Businessmen are thus forced to give in to this. Besides, the more we hear what others say, it will somehow have an effect on us. This is the reason why so many are now pfft by it.

well.. talk about good business acumen. its not a surprise anyway since most businessmen believe in feng sui.

The number 13 is usually associated with bad luck that's why people say it brings bad luck. Think about this: Judas is the 13th apostle!

still just a number though. and depends what order you count them in, too.

Nope, I don't believe that "thing" about 13th floor. I mean, the others are right, replacing "3" with "4" in "13" doesn't change anything, if you count it, it's still the 13th. My theory is that, businessmen who own these buildings are afraid of bad luck and thus, they have to get rid of any representation of bad luck in their buildings, thus, the numeral "13". Maybe they think that not displaying the number is getting rid of bad luck :). Another is, marketing strategy. People are somewhat "afraid" of this number. So, to go with the norms, they have to design the building without the number.

thats the thing i don't get with businessmen.. whatever they try to do, they can't deny the fact that it IS still the 13th floor.

It is a feng suy system, that the thirteenth floor is not labeled as such, I am not so superstitious but if the building owner is then, nothing is wrong, let them be.

you can consider that theory as superstitious... everything start numerically from 1,2,3,4,5 so on and so forth... so how will you reach the number of 14 if you're goin to remove 13... hope you get me pep...
