Who are your first teacher aside from your parents who could have taught you some A B Cs or 1 2 3s at home? Did you go to preschool or you went straight to first grade? I do feel somehow that our first teachers, our preschool (if you went through preschool) or our first grade teachers really deserve to be thanked for teaching us the basics of what we had learned from school. I mean, we wouldn't advance to a higher level of education if our first grade teachers didn't do all that they could to make us able to read, understand simple sentences, count, and calculate simple maths. After all, the foundation of education is build on the first grade...and yeah, how that foundation was built by us with the enormous help of our teachers really affects on what we have become now. And I do realize that, and often make chances to thank my elementary school teachers especially my first grade teacher for stretching out their patience when I was once their student. And I can see the joy in their eyes when I say my humble thank you to them. I know pretty well that they feel a bit delighted that somehow their once naughty student has grown up and became a professional... that's more than a reward to them. And sometimes, I do send a "thank you" note to my favorite teachers to make them feel that the efforts and little sacrifices they have done in educating me are greatly appreciated...:P Now, do you also feel grateful to your first teachers for teaching you the basics? or do you think your college or university professors deserve more of those appreciation? How do you make them feel you were thankful to them educating you? or you just don't bother at all? do share your thoughts:P

My mom ,was a teacher before she became an administrator and I know how her heart swelled when an ex-student of her's would come and wish her and discuss his or her career with her. When they would leave ,she never forgot to remind me ''He was *My* student '' lol and it hasn't changed even today.Even if it's one of her worst days and a student happens to come over she always makes some time and proudly announces ''I taught her''.Yes,it doesn't matter which grade our teachers taught us .What's important is that it makes them feel happy when we acknowledge their contribution in our lives. And preschool is that bit special because that's where our education, and in a way ,career begins. We should do the little we can to make our preschool teachers feel extra special.

Being a retired teacher myself, I can relate to your duscussion. I remember many of of my primary & high school teachers. Good memories in most cases. High school inparticular was good for me. I kept in contact with one of my teachers for very many years. As a teacher myself, I kept in contact with some students. There is one ex-student I see quite a lot at the local supermarket working. I was so pleased to see that she had a job, as she had learning problems, but tried very hard. I always make my daughter give cards to her teachers at the end of the year.

This is very thoughtful of you. I do think that our first teachers deserve to have a big THANK YOU, for teaching us the basics. Sadly, I don't really know where my first grade teacher is now, since I don't live in the country where I was born. However, wherever my teacher is I will always be great full. :)

well i was told that my mother thaught me the basics when i was 4 or 5 years old and i do not really remember any of my teachers that thaught me in the first grades of school i did not go there much..prefered reading a good book at home..yes i was a bit problematic..lol i also were in 4 elementery schools because we moved alote because of my parents jobs so i think the people i shoiuld say thanks to are: my mother that taught me the letters and numbers at a very early age and gave me a chance to start and discovering a world i did not know. my father- that thaught me litrature..i was amazed when i went to school and discovered that they this my favorite hobby there too..lol and my grandparents that were my best teachers of how to see life and enjoy it and to those people i thank each and every day:)

Yes I did go to preschool, I was only 2 years old when I started due to being adopted and my adopted mother being scared to have any children adopted, due to my health, my mother put me there so that I would have someone to play with and to learn. I do appreciate what my teacher taught me at the time as today in the preschools here they are not taught like I was and therefore I had to take my children out of preschool and teach them myself they way I was taught and they were very successful at school for me doing that thank goodness.

I'm glad that most of education I was into did show appreciation to the teachers or proffessor and the school it self. I remembered that everytime one of the teachers (if we know their b'day date) had a b'day, my class mate collected some small money to buy a present for her/him. And once a year we'd re-paint our own class, while once a month we'd clean/scrubbed our own class. Also by the end of our education, we gave them special gifts and thank you, too of course. Up till today, I teach my daughter to try always show our apprecciation not only to the teachers but also to her friends. For me, teachers are also heroes and giver that didn't ask anything in return. Without them, I won't be where I am today.

Not just in the case of teachers. Ever tried saying thank you to your parents? These words make people feel very appreciated, and really helps to bring about good relationships. I think that words of thanks said out in public areas, are really ones that will touch them. I have to say that it is through the hard work of my teachers and mentors in life that I am able to be where I am. Thanks You !!!

That was a nice discussion you had started. Its always good to say "Thank You" and honour the person who have played spl roles in our lives. Sadly I dont remeber any of my first grade teachers and nor do they. I truly feel that we need to extend our gratitude to our pre-school teachers twho have laid the foundation in us. Thanks for posting this and i'll definetly make my children understand the important of these individual in thier lives
